MSE v1 vs MSE v2

Featured Replies

With the small sale on MSE, I thought it about time i'd start upgrading my MSE to v2.  I finally managed to download and install New York state and New Jersey.

I have to say I'm REALLY disappointed:-(  I see almost no defference from v1

Am I just spoilt?  Can VFR France really be that much better?

Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)

Well unless you can tell us a little bit more about what aspect you're disapponted in, what response can you expect?

V2 has a much higher resolution in more areas.  It is far, far, better at lower altitudes, than V1.    However V1 had limited 3D objects and autogen, so perhaps that is where you're disappointed?

I think people are 50/50 with the autogen debate.  It doesn't bother me, as if there were autogen it would block the amazing ground images, which is what I paid to see.      But granted, some people are grossly offended by the lack of autogen.

Have you been 'upstate' in New York, up towards Niagara/Buffallo? ....... It's pretty nice up there.

Wasn't really looking for input, just voicing my disappoint, but yeh you're right, I should've taken screen shots and i will at some point.  I don't much care about autogen.  In fact i think it looks 'odd' in photoscenery.

Compared to VFR France though, the texture quality is simply appalling inmo.

Perhaps there is something wrong with your settings, if you're seeing something "appalling".   With the wrong settings, MSE can be underwhelming.

Each to their own though, as I said, not everyone goes for the MSE 'vibe' .... it was just with you saying you had V1.

I wouldn't say this looks appalling to my eyes  (MSE Oregon)   :-

That looks very nice! That's MSE v2 Oregon?

ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII ▪︎ Intel i9-10900K ▪︎ NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE ▪︎ 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ▪︎ Windows 10 Pro (21H1) ▪︎ Samsung 970 EVO Pro 1TB NVME SSD (OS Drive) ▪︎ Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SATA SSD ▪︎ Seagate 4TB SATA HDD ▪︎ Corsair RMx 850W PSU

Got v2 most of USA love it crank up cloud and water. Autogen do not miss it at 1500-2000 agl and above and photoreal is way better than generic. VFR is better with photoreal as you have realistic reference points for navigation. Like realty under my wing got 34 states of MSv2 can't wait for Canada and Mexico.

Certainly is buddy!

Keep in mind that these sceneries are not monolithic - the quality of both versions had, and has, some variability depending on the source imagery, and I like some areas better than others in terms of the image quality.  The only direct comparison I can do is in my home state.  I had the Colorado tiles from v1, and some of them were very good - but a few were pretty bad.  With v2 all of the state is at least good, and most is exceptionally good, particularly once you get to the mountains.

Edit: Also meant to mention that v1 was more limited.  You could only get parts of some states (like Colorado) not the whole state.

One other note on the autogen issue.  If you have v1 and liked the autogen in a given area, you should be able to use it on v2.  Just create a "textures" folder under the new v2 state and copy the v1 agn files into it.  Seems to work fine in the areas of Colorado covered by both, though I haven't tested it extensively.

There's definitely a difference, I have detailed comparisons here for NJ. The source material for NJ was pretty bad IMO, I still think they shot themselves in the foot going with the most recent imagery instead of whatever good imagery they could find from any point in the last few years. As noted in my post no one would have really been able to tell.
