July 28, 201312 yr Hi ! Yesterday i was flying in a highly detailed scenery using the cessna and i had brilliant fps. When i switched to the ngx my frames dropped as supposed. I asked myself if it is possible in general (future thoughts) to run fsx and the ngx on different systems since i've heard that some parts of the ngx are already running outside of the fsx. Thansk a lot in advance. Chris
July 29, 201312 yr As far as im aware - even if you could it would not help performance. Because FSX architecture is 32 bit - even when you have an external program interacting with it - the program is still limited to the performance in FSX. No way to get around it if you are injecting into the FSX environment. Elliot Westacott
July 29, 201312 yr Yeah, it's possible, but then it's not called NGX, but rather Project Magenta. And costs about 10x more (I asked for price one time). One PC would run the FSX visuals only (very fast as you already discovered!), over a big screen (or even 3 if you want, enough juice in today's hardware), and Project Magenta for all instruments. Hardware for all the knobs. A full cockpit. I don't know where the flight model would come from, I guess from PM too...
July 29, 201312 yr The problem with NGX is, what you want to run outside FS, even networked is supposed to be reflected inside FS. With Project Magenta it is different. The outside view is just an outside view. No gauges, no systems, probably no dynamics. Then there is another system that takes care of the rest. Systems, gauges, probably dynamics. You can (relatively) easily make a slave system display just the view from NGX. But you cannot use NGX panels with the outside view computer. --Peter Fabian
July 29, 201312 yr Author Oh ok. So if i want to fly pmdg i always have to use it within FSX? I even thought about buildung some kind of home cockpit but if the pmdg is not the basis i don't think i want to go for it. Project magenta isn't pmdg basis is it? Thanks Chris
July 30, 201312 yr We have used project magenta for many years and honestly I would stay away from it. It is dated and causes lots of niggly problems constantly. Like has been said earlier - you cant really use the NGX on multicomputers. For home cockpits id take a look at flight deck solutions. I believe they have developed their own software similar to PM and from what Ive heard its much better. Elliot Westacott
July 30, 201312 yr You are correct Elliot. PM is dated, and FDC is probably the most current up to date. I merely wanted to point out that NGX can be run on one computer only, if you are into VC. But for what I'm aware, you could use 2D panels only without the FSX view and run the FSX view over network on the 2nd PC, no? Wideview or however it's called... You would however be limited to 2D panels.
