ATI/AMD Sucks!?!?

Featured Replies

I've built 3 AMD/ATI based PC's and 2 Intel/NVIDIA based platforms, all for running MS flight sims. I've always been an ardent AMD supporter for their value and overall performance. Things might be changing with the latest offerings, specifically the ATI graphics cards and may need to be revisited. There simply is no contest when running single threaded apps like FSX. Intel beats AMD clock for clock. This is not something I just googled and regurgitated here. believe me I wish AMD was superior in this regard.

FSX prefers Intel CPU for sure. Video card wise and dollar for dollar, current gen AMD 78xx and 79xx are pretty much the same as their nvidia counterparts. That said, beyond 7970ghz model and GTX680/770, nvidia has a few models further up the ladder. 780 and titan. AMD has not released anything in this $600 - $1000 region. You only have one choice in that extreme range now. 6 months from now we look at AMD 9000 series. That should be interesting.

It might get delayed, but I don't expect its arrival to take more than 3 months. AMD need to compete against the GeForce 700 series.

While the 7970 GHz edition competes with the 680 and in many cases the 770, ya. They need to release something to full on beat the 770 and the 780. If they do, nvidia will refresh. Titan will become the $600 card suddenly and the refresh battle will begin. It never ends! Lol.

I just hope FSX compatability continues to be really good like the 79xx series is but even better obviously. I want 8xSSAA in all weather over cities! :-)

I can only hope that AMD will continue development and improvements on desktop PC components (CPU's) as Intel has made public statements implying they'll focus more on mobile device based platforms instead of PC's in the future. .

Isn't Haswell all "power saver" or whatever? It is obviously inclined for tablets so they don't use a lot of battery. Intel and Microsoft are teaming up or what?

Dismaying, really for PC users in general. I have to say, though, that I have FSX running better than I ever have in the past. Maybe P3D will be marketed as a consumer product. Maybe another viable sim platform will come that will still utilize my existing 3rd party software and run well on an "average" machine. I can dream I guess.

Just remember The HD 7990  has dual gpu onboard and will actually perform slower in FSX than a single GPU card.

So make sure you get the best radeon with a single gpu not dual
