August 4, 201312 yr Follow up: Ok, I have completely resolved this anomoly on my system. Contrary to what I said above, SweetFX definitely seems to be the cause of the artifacts on my system. Changing the Buffer Pools numbers didn't resolve things, but when I looked further into uninstalling SweetFX, I realized that I had only uninstalled the settings and injector files, and hadn't removed the DLL files. When I removed all traces of the SweetFX files, I stopped getting any of these graphical anomolies. I've just launched 5 different instances of FSX, at graphics intensive locations, and at all the points where I had been seeing the anomolies and never got one single instance of the problem. So for me, my SweetFX days are over. To be honest, although the frame rate hit was smaller, I wasn't one bit impressed with the graphics 'improvements' that SweetFX gave. The Bloom was either too harsh or too mild, the HDR just seemed to work on the lower (darkening) end, and the LumaSharpen effect (which is what I value most in these tools; especially the ENB variant of this) just went from 'hardly noticeable' to 'very grainy'. T Those are just my findings. I tried to love SweetFX, but it just could not come close to replacing the gorgeous stunning ENB settings that I had in DX9 (that I still miss!)* *I miss the ENB settings, not DX9 ! Good to know, just now I'm experimenting SweetFX in DX10, not bad, but imho a bit artificial. Have you tried Shade? I own it and very satisfied, so think to not use anymore Sweet. August 4, 201312 yr So if I followed Nick's "Biblical Words" I 'shouldn't' be using ENB due to the above 'commandment'....... despite it vastly improving my experience and enjoyment. I agree, FSX has too many false prophets; so always go with what works for you, in my case I tried ENB and meh. Mike Mann
August 5, 201312 yr I would not go as far as calling Nick a false prophet. But it is true that his bible as you call it is not a scientific work off but a bundle of observations that was gathered over a long time of flightsimming. So, even if Nick's bible hold quite a lot of truth, it's mileage will differ from one system to another. In fact he makes that statement in his opening piece... And talking about the overall colours in fsx, it is still the user who does the liking or not Luc Brusselmans Belgium
August 5, 201312 yr I want my cookie for being correct -- ok I'll half it with Paul I've read Nick and Word Not Allowed threads/docs also ... long long read, does seem to be a little on the "Trial and Error" side with perhaps a tad too much drama in the content Not having access to the source code and the ability to profile the application natively, we're all having to make some assumptions without really knowing what's happening. I've used Process Explorer, Process Monitor, File Monitor and it still baffles me at what FSX does ... some processing I can piece together, but other processing has me scratching my head. Some information is good, some just wrong, and some a little of both, and some I have no idea. Part of me wishes for an Open Source FSX, but another part of me realizes that might be a disaster (too many cooks in the kitchen). But I doubt FSX code will ever be made available for an affordable price ... LM/P3D would probably NOT like that at all. Has anyone else tried to purchase the source code (other than me)? I remember I inquired many years ago (2009/2010) and after much hunting, many ignored emails, many unreturned phone calls, I finally got a one liner Email that said "Source code is not available" (this was back when I actually had time to possibly put together a small group of devs, those days are now long gone). Oops, side tracked again...

August 5, 201312 yr DX9 + ENB, works for me just fine. Sweet...causes my FSX to CTD everytime. Maybe you tried it already and it isn't the cause of your crashing, but maybe you missed it: There is an Windows Update causing Sweet FX to crash your system. There is at least one topic on AVSim about this. When I removed it, the crashing stopped instantly as it did at many others as well. If you haven't tried it yet you should look it up. It's Windows update: KB2670838. But look it up first, what it does, and if you want to remove it. For most people it will be fine to just remove it, but it is a long time ago for me and maybe things changed or you need the update for something else you use. Mark
