I will pay $100.00 for an 32 to 64 bit software emulator...

Gave DX10 another shot today. Saw lots of white AI aircraft and turned it off again. Too bad. :|

You'll need to apply Steve's DX10 adjustments (files available in AVSIM library) and/or wait for Steve's soon to be released retail package that makes the process easier.  It solves many many many issues in DX10 Preview ... can't remember the last time I ran into any issue and I'm running a slightly older set of Steve's fixes (3.2.2).  Also outlines process for changing aircraft.cfg so lights work at all angles.

I'm running Traffic360, but as you can see no white AI aircraft in my screen shots (and it was raining too, there is a rain fix) FSDT CYVR - 4096 textures 9.5 LOD RealAir Turbine Duke ... no OOMs:  http://www.robainscough.com/FSX_Scenery_-_BC__WA__OR.php

Tried to do this in DX9 and OOM at TakeOff and about 9 fps frame rate hit on average -- DX10 clearly seems to be much more efficient and provides better performance -- can't tell you if it's because of better Geometric instancing efficiency in DX10 or not or a combination of other efficiencies in DX10 (lots of variables including driver settings and hardware).

Already did all that.

The "retail" in "retail package" makes it a bit tough for me. All I want to know is what he did to make old models and textures compatible to DX10.

I take that the models are FSX native then.

Funnily enough, my performance increase in DX10 is negligible. But even one or two FPS is a matter of enjoyment at JFK.

OOMs haven't been a problem for me since the HIGHMEMFIX discovery.

If you've installed Steve's 3.2.2 fixes you'll see what was done and it's also extensively discussed on his web page.  Compare your backups files with the changes Steve has made ... all will be revealed.

The closer I get to "as real as it gets" the closer I get to OOM ... DX10 has allowed me to "get more real".

Yes, FSX native models, FS9 ones will be a problem, and FS8 ones ... and FS2 ones and ... ;)

His tool is said to have a "scenery fixer". This is what I'm interested in.

Well, a PPL would allow you to get even more real...

DX10 is worth a few anomalies. Much larger buffer room for no OOMs, slightly better performance, and just looks better all around.

I had white aircraft AI but used Addon Convertor, which did the trick for most not all. But not worth buying now that Steves fix will be out shortly.  DX10 is just the way to go. Everything is give and take. But the take here is rewarding in my experience.

First AMD is great and now this.

What's next? I just want to know so I can avoid...

Just kidding, glad your enjoying the sim Cheers!

Tweaking to death. Tis better to fly with a program, then look at Notepad all day long.

Exactly, that's why I ditched AMD as it doesn't come close to an Intel when it comes to FSX no matter how high you overclock it.

Exactly. That is why I am using a 3+ year old AMD, not doing a bit of over-clocking or tweaking and I didn't need to take out a loan to purchase my parts.

Bravo Jim, glad you are enjoying windows, but as far as FSX I know its just not there, been there and done that including poring in the money to try to O/C to make up for it.

As long as you bought that system with something other than FSX in mind your looking good, otherwise you could have done more for the same money (I5 etc).

For REAL FSX performance without "taking out a loan": $200 for an I7-4700K Haswell and another $120 for the Asrock X3(Microcenter) makes mincemeat of any AMD system, and the cheaper I5 is just as powerful for FSX.

I realize If you haven't had both you don't know what you are missing, but if you ever get a chance at a do over for FSX don't repeat the AMD experience as it is sorely lacking.

You've obviously never programmed gauges for MSFS. *That* is looking at Notepad all day long!

Well, if you don't have money to invest, you're basically stuck with DX9.

It's either buying the tools to make old stuff work or buy entirely new AI traffic.

I am not sure what your point is, but mine is this:

I purchased my parts for FSX years ago and have been happily using them ever since.

I saved a crap load of money at the time.

I save a heck of a lot of time NOT overclocking. I fly with FSX instead. Yes, if I wanted to mess around, I could OC to close to 4GHz with a stock cooler and air.

I run my FSX sliders FULL RIGHT with the exception of Auto-Gen set to Dense. This is with Global mesh, Orbx Global textures, every ORBX airport, landclass, and every UT region. THere are 818 AI Traffic files active.

I lock my frame rate to 30 in FSX and only in heavy weather from AS 2012 do my frames dip below that value.

I am not comparing anything available today to what I purchased years ago.

Look, I had that CPU, and got it run at 4GHZ with 8G of ram, was no small feat, but even then FSX just choked it, so please stop trying to convince me.

I do agree with you whole heatedly that Flying and enjoying is better than constantly tweaking, which is exactly my point - Use the right hardware if you want to enjoy FSX.

However trying to convince others as you have that "AMD is great" "not overclocked" "All sliders to the right", I guess, yeah sure in that vein even FS5.0 on a 486DX2 with a Vesa Local bus Diamond Viper 2mb ATI graphics card trying to fly Mallards San Fransisco ray traced photoreal was "great" too.

Enjoy.
