August 13, 201312 yr And the best small GA VC? Carenado F33A BonanzaI could look at the vent window latch, all day
August 13, 201312 yr No such thing as the best UK VFR scenery , to get the best results it's a matter of installing various sceneries. Good base for England / Wales is Horizon VFR Photographic Scenery, then build your airport scenery from there. UK2000 is probably the best but there are plenty of freeware available, Scotland requires Scotflight scenery and again there is freeware which you can add. Flying across the border does change the type of scenery but this isn't a problem. Also an installed good mesh etc enhances everything. Just make sure that any scenery is compatible with your system, some older stuff won't work on Windows 7 or 8, this is especially true with some commercial software. Like a cake, it's all the matter of the mix, and experimentation !! Echofox
August 13, 201312 yr Hi. Horizon (now Playsims) are aiming to cover the whole of the British Isles: they currently have all Wales, all England, Outer Hebrides, North Scotland, South Scotland, Eire and possibly Orkney & Shetland. I believe that Central Scotland is underway, hopefully along with the Inner Hebrides. High-res mesh comes with each Playsims VFR photoscenery package, as do a number of (fairly basic) airports for a couple of volumes. I particularly appreciate the Eire small strips they included. I'm using JustFlight's British Airport series and really it's only barely adequate, having been made for FS2002. I've invested so much time correcting & improving (altering afcads, cleaning up textures et c.) that I'm loath to change now. I'm certain there are much better airfields available. Scotflight airports & scenery for FS9 is compatible with the stock coastlines so with addon scenery looks a bit odd in places, especially where bridges are displaced. The Scotflight airports are a treat, and mostly far enough from the coasts to be unaffected. Those on the coast (such as Turnberry) have their own bit of dry land. As Echofox suggests, take a look in the library. Try a search for 'British' under FS2004 scenery. For a good VC for VFR flight, try the RealAir SF260, payware download, with a crisp functional VC, a viewpoint that moves around with acceleration, and a big canopy that gives an unimpeded view. It's also a great plane for throwing around the sky when you've had enough of sight-seeing... Best regards, Dave edit: is that an automatic format of the word 'payware'? edit, edit: yup
August 13, 201312 yr Hi Ian & Dave, just ordered both VFR Scotland N&S, on discount at Flightstore in the UK. "Central" Scotland not yet available, but mostly mountains, where I will be in September ! Echofox
August 13, 201312 yr I don't fly much in the UK so I cant help with the scenery, but further to what WingZ said.......anything Carenado is outstanding
August 14, 201312 yr Hi Ian & Dave, just ordered both VFR Scotland N&S, on discount at Flightstore in the UK. "Central" Scotland not yet available, but mostly mountains, where I will be in September ! Echofox I was in Torridon back in May. The previous trip was to Assynt. The Playsims VFR stuff, combined with FS Global mesh was quite useful in the weeks before the trips- inspiration for days out on the hill. The only drawback is that many lochs still have the default elevation, which can make things look very odd... I may return at the end of this month. D
