General Upgrade Question and Advice

Featured Replies

Hi,I'm currently running FS2002 on a high end computer. I've held off upgrading to FS9 because of the PIC767. I also fly Flight 1's Piper Meridian and Cessna 421C.With the impending release of PIC767 for FS9, I'm going to upgrade to FS9 now. So my question is this:Should I install the the FS 9.1 upgrade as well? I'm currently running WIndows XP Home SP1. I have avoided upgrading to SP2 because I'm not looking for trouble for my computer is perfectly stable. Based on what I've read in some of the posts, I'm a bit apprehensive in downloading and installing the FS9.1 upgrade.Thoughts and advice would be appreciated,Lawrie

The FS9.1 upgrade is pretty darn solid and should not cause you grief. I would install it. The only difficulty seems to be installing it after having made modifications to the FS9 standard module files.Since you are installing from scratch you should not have any problems.BTW, it does come with an un-installer..You'll love FS9 after having flown FS2002!

Without a doubt, yes. The only problems came from upgrading modified versions of fs9. Do a clean install, then run the patch, then install all your addons, and you should be all set. I did a full uninstall of fs2004 when the patch came out, and it worked great.

Your system is similar to mine. Adding the patch when you upgrade to FS2004 is the perfect time as you will doing a clean install.Yes, a lot of people had problems with the patch because of not reading the install directions closely, because of a lot of custom add-ons, things like that. But yours should be a breeze. Go for it.

A large part of WinXP SP2 is SP1. It was included in SP2 for those needing to update from the BASIC. The rest of SP2 are mainly security updates, firewall improvements and DirectX9.0c. If you had been updating on a somewhat regular basic, you had been installing pre-SP2 updates onto your computer.I recommend downloading and installing the entire SP2. I also recommend installing the FS9.1 Update.W. Sieffert
