Runway Alignment

Featured Replies

Runway alignment is just about the most important aspect of an airport scenery package for me. What I mean is that the runway markings (centreline/edge lines/threshold arrows etc.) must be aligned properly with each other, and also with the lighting (centreline lighting/edge lighting/approach lighting etc.). There is nothing worse for me than to approach a runway, and notice that the centreline lighting is skewed off to one side with respect to the centreline markings, or displaced threshold arrows that are (for want of a better term)......wonky.

Whilst in certain situations this might be realistic, it just bugs me!

What I would like to know is what the rest of you guys think. Are you as annoyed by runway misalignment as I am? Do you prefer everything to be as it is in the real world, even if certain elements are misaligned? Or do you simply not care, and wonder why this idiot created such a ridiculous thread?

That"s a good question you have. I'm too busy thinking  about that sort of thing. Right now in my early stage of development, I'm lucking if I even land on the runway, lol.

Not that concerned and do not require all that stuff for a successful flight. If your that enamored by all that. Use ADE or AFX to correct or design your airports.

I use ADE all the time, partly because I need (or want) to make various modifcations to my airfields, and also because I am currently involved in an update project for an FSX product.

ADE is the best. All my local airports around where I live have been tweaked also. KSSI even got the full Instant Scenery makeover. Lol.

I am rather surprised by the relative lack of responses in this thread. I guess I must be the only person on the planet that actually cares about runway alignment in FS?

You're probably not the only guy on the planet who cares, but it's just not as important to a lot of us.

If I was familiar with a particular airport which had an interesting anomoly like that in real life, I'd be impressed to see it represented in a simulated version of the airfield. If I wasn't familiar with the airport and didn't know that the misalignment or issue actually represented something in real life, I'd wonder how much the designer was drinking when he/she laid out the simulated airport during the design.
