November 6, 200421 yr EricI did the same thing after the thread and I agree with you. Moving from Norton to NOD32 was a great thing, no more stutters. Besides already have a good experience with NOD32, some days ago NOD32 alerted me that a mail received had a suspected virus, went to quarantine made a ZIP and sent it to NOD32 Lab, after 2 hour there was an update for the DB. I restored the file from quarantine and bingo Win32/Bagle.AU worm in the file.Jos
November 6, 200421 yr I am not familiar with NOD32. Is this available in a boxed version or if not, any suggestions on a web site? Thanks.
November 7, 200421 yr Yes. Norton Anti virus, while it works well, is an old bloated piece of software. Even if you "disable" it, it's kernal is still using up system resources. After reading a previous thread last month in this forum, I downloaded and tried NOD32. http://www.nod32.com/download/trial.htm I also did research on other web sites and magazines that tested NOD32. It does the same job, maybe even better, than other AV products except that it is MUCH FASTER than any other AV product. I get faster framerates with NOD32 turned on that I did with Norton AV 2004 turned OFF!! Even though the price is a little high, I gladly paid the $39 for NOD32. The speed improvement is worth the extra $15 or so. By the way, I also get much more frequent virus signature updates from NOD32 than I did with Norton. Cheers, Bruce Freeburger
November 7, 200421 yr Best thing I ever did was to uninstall my Norton Anti virus and install AVG (avaiable free from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/1/)The effect on FS and all other programs was dramatic.AVG uses far less resources and will not interefere with running programs. I find I don't need to disable AVG before running FS, like I had to do with Norton.I have recovered a huge amount of disk space and system resources average 75% now as opposed to some 53% with Norton.AVG installed fast and immedately found two minor viruses and a trojan that Norton had not identified.Updating AVG is also painless and fast (I had problems with Norton Update) and AVG updates are available very frequently (almost daily).Highly recommended. I should have done this a long time ago! John

I am assuming the initial purchase will only give you updates for one year??thanks in advance, Randy
November 8, 200421 yr John, I have no experiance with AVG. Others online here have noted that the freeware version is not as good as the payware version of AVG. Users have said that the free AVG had detected new viruses, but could not remove them. They also said that paying for AVG got more frequent updates. For it's free price, AVG is certainly better than having people run computers with no anti virus protection. NOD32 is faster than any other antivirus program, including AVG. It is especially fantastic at detecting and removing "In the wild" viruses. It has gone through 29 consecutive monthly tests as the only AV program to have always detected them. Because of this, Microsoft and Symantic have used licenced copies of NOD32 to use as a backup quality control to detect viruses in final consumer releases. Cheers, Bruce
