I f you have a normal office chair that is on a hyraulic pole that would be fine as it does come with fittings buddy to conect to something like that

it just clamps around the pole sending the vibrations up to the seat ..

Are there any exterior sounds? For example: can you hear the vibrations from another room, or is it all just for kicking your butt?

I would very much like to look into the idea of using a binaural 3D microphone system in the future - this device actually looks like a human head and it detects sound three dimensionally based on the delays between the sounds reaching the microphones in each ear. This would provide the most realistic experience you could possibly get, but it's difficult because we'd have to 100% replace the FSX default sound system and support 3D audio based on the camera position to do it. That's a pretty large challenge.

as an audio engineer and acoustic tecnichian, if I can, I not recomend you the use of 3d binaural systems to captur sound that you will use to reproduce the environment of the cockpit, infact this microphone system is ideal to capture information regarding an environment to study later the beaviour of this acoustic room in the position of the listener's head, instead when you reproduce this sound on your monitors system you have it incorrectly positioned in the space, infact the monitors are not positioned at your ears.

Instead I recommend you, to have a more realistic recording/reproduction ratio, to record the sound in a position in the space relative to the position of the monitors in a standard user configuration, in this case when you reproduce the sound that you have recorded you will have the more realistic experience.

remember sophisticated system are used to analize the acoustic environment but to have a realistic replica of this environment you have to utilize a more simple recording technique , possibly using the information from those more sophisticated systems only to decide wich mixing trick you will utilize to make this recording more natural.
