ORBX Global or MS2.0

Featured Replies

Guys, I am debating if should get Megascenery v2.0 , or if I should get ORBX Global. I fly mostly the Americas: USA, Mexico, Central America , and South America. Does this product covers these regions eficiently or only Canada and the U.S.? And which one is better, then in terms of quality ORBX Global or MS v.2.0

Two different products.

Megascenery is photoreal with no depth and only one season.  Great for 5,000+ and higher because you see real cities, etc.

Orbx, while it won't give you accurate cities, etc. does have depth and changes with the seasons.  Very nice for low flying where those things are more important.

I bought Megascenery Illionios, but uninstalled it because I much preferred the depth.

Its true that I can no longer fly over my home, but photoscenery didn't really allow me to do that either since my house was just a flat image and a fairly blurry one at that.

I satisfied my craving for photoreal scenery with Simsavvy (before they sold out to Megascenery). I know Megascenery is higher resolution, but SS gets the job done in cases where I particularly like photoscenery (i.e., in the Southwest US). Everywhere else I fly, FTX Global is the winner for me.

And, then, of course, there's the matter of cost. I just can't justify spending upwards of $2,000 for coverage of the continental US.

I have the southern half of the US in MSEv2.  That satisfies my urge to fly photoreal.  I also have every region that ORBX has produced, but I won't buy FTXG until they produce a functional uninstaller.  When I do purchase FTXG, I feel like I will have a variety of scenic regions of varying technologies to satisfy every visual need. I do like that FTXG, for a reasonable price, will cover the entire world.  That's quite an accomplishment.  You know what?  I trust ORBX to provide a proper uninstaller, I'm getting FTXG now.   But I still recommend some of each.

If you have never used photoreal scenery, give it a try and then decide

FTXG will cover the whole world in generic, FTX style textures, photo scenery only in the places you have it for.

Michael beat me to it.  Blue Sky is a simple and inexpensive (free in fact, with donation if you like) way to try photo and see if it's for you, and its quality level is very high.  Photo has huge pluses, and some substantial minuses, which is why you'll often hear such passion on one side or the other.  People tend to love it or hate it (or if they're like me a bit of both).  However, even if you find you like photo, FTXG is a different thing.  Photo, like Orbx regions, is about upgrading more limited areas, but you can't do the whole world.  FTXG is about making everywhere a bit better.
