November 7, 200421 yr 1. Heading over the mountain ranges towards Innsbruck I'm instructed to alter my altitude from my 13,000ft to 12,000ft. A short while later I'm instructed to go back to 13,000ft. And this goes on and on. Can that be correct or is it a bug in FS9?2. I follow these instructions and eventually find myself guided to Innsbruck but I'm way too high to land. Is it me or is this also a bug?Cliff
November 7, 200421 yr 1. This is a bug. The workaround is to reload the flightplan and set the 13.000ft as your cruising altitude.2. FS still cannot handle to vector you in an airport with a lot of terrain around. Get some aproach charts and fly the approach as published. That works fairly well. There was a LOWI post a short time ago. Do a search. I provided URLs to the charts needed.Alex
November 14, 200421 yr Hi there, I wondered that too but assumed I was in the wrong place or something. I was told to increase my height but i ignored it and an a.i. baron flew out from underneath me, climbing fast!!
November 14, 200421 yr On a similar subject, anyone had a problems with headings? Sometimes ATC gives me a heading, then changes it by about 30deg then puts me back on the original heading. It then keeps on repeating this sequence. Gerry Howard
November 14, 200421 yr Do a search here or look at the Radar Contact forum on AVSIM for replacing FS ATC with RC. This has resolved many problems for the ATC conscious who do not want to use on-line services such as VATSIM.You may wish to save dineros and wait for the upcoming version 4 in a few months.
November 15, 200421 yr Ronzie I've done just that and last night took my first Radar Contact tutorial tutorial flight.Do you have any idea what new or improved features version 4 may offer?I'm hoping that it will be able to deal with mountains in a realistic manner.Cliff
November 15, 200421 yr Terrain clearance was addressed in one of the later builds. Make sure you upgrade to the latest build with downloading the new .exe and the voice files as addressed in the pinned topic at the head of their support forum here on AVSIM. During approach terrain clearance and altitude is adjusted on a surface altitude averaging scheme of the current and adjacent quadrants. You can specify different clearances on a per flight basis if you wish.As noted you pick the cruising altitude and RC will adjust that as needed to maintain clearance (I believe). Version 4 enhancements have not been posted in one message but have frequent postings regarding it on the referenced support forum. One of the most requested improvements is in interaction with AI in two areas:RC will be able to control AI quite a bit. This will help in avoidance manuvers for both you and AI. If you have updated to 3.1 it can only read AI (check that in the options box) and call out targets to you. 4 will control AI and you for pattern merging. If AI are active at an airport, RC will pick the runway assignments by monitoring airport pattern AI prior to departure and arrival before applying its own runway selection criteria so you will be using the current traffic patterns. There are many encouraged additional features best discovered by browsing their forum.Again, I encourage you to appply the existing 3.1 free upgrades as it greatly improves your mountain flying experience.
November 15, 200421 yr For those who have FSNav, and not RC, the cruise level can also be set in FSNav. I also set Headings, and Altitude for manual control. Export the flightplan to FS2004. Then, I load it, without checking go directly to fly. This way you can create the flight plan in FSNav, and have ATC... This week created a flight plan following the Columbia River in OR, to its source. Just right clicking on points along the river, and adding to the flightplan. Set my altitude for 2000 feet, and flew the river. Manual adjusting my headings, was able to avoid the mountains in areas where FSGenesis excellent MESH did not follow the river in FSNav. Starting out at Dawn, made it a very colorful flight.
November 15, 200421 yr Yup Ronzie I'm using 3.1.Another "problem" I'm trying to get to grips with is which runway to use?Even though I specify a runway, and build the Flight Plan based on that heading, ATIS sometimes instructs me to use a different one. Consequently when I depart I'm not following the headings in the Flight Plan and have to wait some time before getting back on track. Is that normal?Regards,Cliff
November 16, 200421 yr If you are specifying TO rwy in the Controller Screen of RC, that only changes your ground taxi instructions. RC ATIS is what the AI are supposedly using based on weather and other conditions and does not reference your preference. ATIS is mostly advisory unless referred to by a controller. When you do choose your own runway and do not follow the recommended one normally chosen, you risk conflicting with AI traffic so caution is needed. (This will be improved in version 4.)In your flight plan choose your first waypoint outside of a thirty mile distance from the airport. RC will give you an initial heading and vectors to the course to get to that point. When you are on the correct heading to that point you'll receive the instructions to resume your own navigation. If you choose a waypoint within thirty nm, you may get an initial heading on TO but will be expected to fly as needed to get to it crossing all your filed initial waypoints within that thirty nm without receiving vectors. In this case when you get your final TO clearance you'll hear fly as filed.
November 16, 200421 yr Booted up at 5 am this morning to find your clear explanation waiting for me. I thank you Ronzie. The more I use Radar Contact the more logical and intuitive it's use becomes.I note that photography is another of your hobbies. I've been a keen photographer for many years. With my regards,Cliff
November 16, 200421 yr Hello Cliff,Since you are living in Teulada, I wanted to ask you which scenery of Mutxamiel you are using, if any. I live part of the year in Xabia and was wondering which rendition of the Costa Blanca you are using and if you are happy with it. Have a good day,J.J.JJ StruyfBraine-L'AlleudBelgiumhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg Jean-Jacques Struyf between EBBR and EBCI
November 16, 200421 yr Good morning JJ.....nice to hear from you.Sorry but the only scenery improvement add-ons I have are:European Enhanced Terrain andFS Global 2005Regards,Cliff
November 16, 200421 yr Well, I still have radar contact sitting on my shelf. I bought it once during the earlier days of FS2K2 but uninstalled it almost immediately as I really couldn't stand the crappy TTS voice. It completely ruined it for me.Did they do any improvement on the voices meanwhile?Alex
