Cool shots watch out for the mountain lions Rob

 

Yeah, it was only 7 months ago that we (my wife and I) encountered a mountain lion face to face (after 10+ years of hiking the same area without a single sigthing) -- about 20 yards away, fortunately for us no cubs around.

The cool thing about the MSE CA 2.0 and being able to see our home (and other recognizable areas), is that I can date when the photo scenery was taken ... if you look at the last link (pic) you'll see what looks like a "blue" home (a few houses away from ours) ... this is actually a blue tarp that was placed over the home because that property had a fire where much of the roof was destroyed.  So I'm going to guess the images were take in or around summer of 2012.

 

Anyway, I just think it's pretty cool to be able to make these associations with photo scenery.

Yes colors look better than V1. How about compared with the same area in Bluesky, and how about sharpness of V2 compared to V1?

I'll just chime in quickly on this one. The v2 textures are a higher resolution source of 50cm/pixel. I think the v1 stuff was 1.12m (off memory). However, if you do not have your graphics card or video resolution settings set appropriately in FSX, then you may not be able to easily discern the difference between the two in the sim. Only with the right combination of settings that allow the higher res v2 imagery to display as they should, will you see the difference :) So please just consider that information first :)

Summer 2012... Pretty recent then, which is good!

 

With MSE v2 states, the quality of any particular state or area within a state is determined by the quality of the available imagery at the time the MSE scenery was created for that state. Remember that source imagery can be made up of thousands and thousands of individual images, and not all of these images are taken by the same camera, by the same photographer, and certainly rarely will a whole state be aerial photographed in a single day, so you can get some variation in the source imagery for colour, date when it was taken, and so on. This is more noticeable in some states than others. At the moment, it is probably most noticeable in New York over any other.  

 

However, we have promised that whenever the source data is improved for a state, or better quality data becomes available, we will re-do that state's scenery and offer that upgrade free of charge to existing owners of that MSE v2 state product. We have already done that for a couple of Eastern USA states in the past.

 

The problem is that the acquisition and process for new and improved aerial photography is not under our control, so we cannot give a date on when any particular state will be updated, or if it will be updated at all. This aspect is truly out of our control. But when new data does become available, we can then do something about it, and create the upgraded v2.0 MSE scenery and offer it to our customers.

Could you please tell me what I'm doing wrong then. Below are three screens and my fsx.config. The first MSE V1, the second MSE V2, and the third my video settings. MSE V1 is much crisper and pleasant on my eye than V2. I have dozens of V1 vs. V2 comparison shots from Colorado, Arizona, and Utah. I've run them by everyone that has come to our facility and they all agree V1 looks much better in the areas we've flown. I tried the suggested MSE tweaks, but that does nothing, and makes our other addons look worse. So I'm open to more suggestions. BTW our monitor resolutions are 2650x1600. Computer is a Sandy @ 5.1ghz with 8gb ram, specifically tuned for FSX using NickN's guide.

I've looked into the costs of obtaining Aerial images (think I've talked about this before) and was shocked by the cost for even just one state like California, and forget about getting HiRes Satellite images (similar to what Google use) those are even more costly than aerial (like 4X times as costly). 

 

I contacted several places that sell image sources and we're talking Multi-Millions of US dollars to acquire ... and that's just image source alone (ignoring developer costs to convert).  Maybe I just didn't find a "bargain" image source but I did try 7 sources ... to be honest, I have no idea how MSE make money from this even at $100 for CA -- obviously you do otherwise you wouldn't making more states.  So please, keep up the good work and move on to the rest of the planet.
