August 29, 201312 yr Slow loading blurry ground textures in FS9? I have a fine PC (20fps locked with payware aircraft, stock everything else), but for some reason the "tiles" that make up ground textures seem to have difficulty loading in time. I'm not talking about them being missing but in the distance they're blurry (which I'm to assume they're meant to be past a certain distance?) but when I get closer they still take longer than i'd like to become "not blurry". They sometimes don't clear up until i'm within 10nm of them! Is there something I can edit or change to get them to load faster? This doesn't *seem* like a hardware issue it seems more like a sim issue because even when i'm not using my payware the issue is the same. Is there a .cfg value I can edit, or will moving a certain slider I don't need to the left free up some speed to load the textures faster with? James Bennett

August 29, 201312 yr Author Thanks. Those appear to already be my settings. What effect does TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40 have? Would increasing this have a positive impact? James Bennett
August 30, 201312 yr Although you say you have a fine PC could you provide a precis' of the cpu, memory and graphics card? Additionally if you search on 'blurry textures' in this forum I'm sure you would be surprised at the extent of this typical problem of an incorrectly set-up FS9.

I don't think it's a hardware problem because I tested turning lots of sliders down but it didn't male and difference to how far away detailed textures loaded. It's just an issue with some setting somewhere restricting the default radius for detailed textures. I'll post specs when I'm not on mobile later because it'll take forever from on here. August 30, 201312 yr Author Dont clear until 10nm!!! I'd love that. I have an i5-2500, GTX 560, 8mb RAM and doubt I get them clear approaching aircraft at even half that and nothing I've ever done in the cfg ever changes that. Just a FS9 limitation I guess. Sometimes its ten on a good day, sometimes i'm pretty sure it's as low as three! Must just be a limitation, i bet it has something to do with the fact i'm running it on a widescreen monitor with a higher resolution than FS9 was really intended to take. James Bennett

Hello If your texture problem is what I think it is, then you have answered your own question. Increase TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40 to anything from 80ish to max 400(I would go straight for latter) and that will (assuming your texture problem IS! what I think it is) almost certainly help. This is an old and well used tweak. Cheers Andy
August 30, 201312 yr That tweak has not helped me at all on my current system. Rather annoying, really.
August 30, 201312 yr Ps remember to have the 'extended terrain details or textures (can't quite remember which it is called) option checked in your general FS9 settings. Hofsocks That tweak has not helped me at all on my current system. Rather annoying, really. Ah well Sir! That's why trying all possible solutions (in the case of OP )is the best option. FS can be a cussed thing, and some solutions work for some of the people etc etc..that's why we love the old beast. Socks
August 30, 201312 yr Yeah... it is frustrating. This tweak worked like a charm on my old system, so I know it's valid. I just don't want him to get his hopes up too high... I've been on a quest to rid myself of the blurries for the last two years and have gotten no where!
August 30, 201312 yr Author Not unless it is a sub standard monitor. It's not a great one, its about 5 years old and runs off a VGA cable. August 30, 201312 yr I am not sure whether you noted my other tip......In FS9 Display settings make sure that 'Extended terrain textures' is checked. Its worth remembering that whatever you try, you will probably never achieve perfect results. Its why we are still discussing these issues after many moons have risen and set upon the far mountains of the great plain. Andy

I just tried increasing the BANDWIDTH_MULT to 80 from 40 and it's made a big difference. It's gone from barely loading the detail travelling at 100 knots to loading it far enough into the distance that it looks good travelling at 600knots in the Eurofighter. James Bennett
August 30, 201312 yr Yeah, it's checked. I just tried increasing the BANDWIDTH_MULT to 80 from 40 and it's made a big difference. Your lucky if 80 has made such a difference. Most go straight for 400. Some go for numbers higher still, but jury is out on whether numbers greater than 400 have any significant effect.(Placebo perhaps) Anyways if you have got it sorted Excellent. Cheers Andy
