EGKK Timba STAR ctd

Featured Replies

Something very strange, there were a few of us flying the UK event on vatsim, and we all experienced the same.

Runway in use was 08R, star was Timba 3E with Timba transition.

As soon as we entered the transition, the sim would hang and crash. Every single time.

I ended up entering the waypoints of the star manually one by one and it worked fine.

Is there a corruption with this particular star? Has anyone else had this problem? It happened to two of us flying MD 11s.

I've had the same happening but I isolated my error to be linked to very short flights (diverting because of engine failure) were I did not reach CRZ. When I replicated the situation and edited CRZ before installing the approach it did not fail.

Hmmm no, was doing a 6 hour flight from Dubai and a friend a short hop from Frankfurt.

His sim crashed first, he was on approach and forgot to enter the Timba transition, when he did, his sim crashed.

I entered the approach including transition when I was about 50nm from TOD. bang, sim crashed. I rebooted with VAFS since it was saving the flight, as soon as I entered the transition, crash again, and so did my fellow flier.

Very strange.

Will try later.

To prevent CTD due to FMS:

* LEVEL THE AIRCRAFT THEN RESET CRUISE ALTITUDE to get it into CRZ mode *BEFORE* playing with the LEGS page (after go-around for example).

* If T/D occurs at/before T/C there will be a CTD. Occurs if cruise alt is too high for a short leg. Harder to spot until it is too late. Way to avoid is make the next waypoint hundreds of miles away if you want/need to climb (e.g. terrain avoidance). I was experimenting with this today - the aircraft altitude can also induce it if you climb rapidly due the same reason (T/D computed before T/C).

Best regards,

Robin.

Thanks Robin but none of those scenarios apply in my case.

OK.

Where on the STAR does it crash? At ENTRY of the STAR (into the FMS), when the first waypoint becomes active?

Best regards,

Robin.

AIRAC 1204 no probs (and I started from a position likely to cause CTD - no route). I flew away from the area not knowing what I was going to see. Climbed to 25000 ft then loaded the STAR. No probs all the way to touchdown.

I will update the AIRAC tomorrow and test with that.

Best regards,

Robin.
