September 4, 201312 yr You didn't mention any other functioning PCs - either laptops or desktops. if you run everything on a single PC why don't you get one of your old desktops running? With a WideFS licence you can run a weather program and other FS related stuff on that and free up resources on your main PC. Hi Ray In fact, one of the de-commissioned desktops is in fact an Intel Pentium D Core 2 Duo. A very interesting suggestion, you make. Thanks. This is certainly a live 'n learn thread. Unfortunately, EGGC is a bit too far for me to make expensive rail trips on the off-chance the weather will be okay. BTW, are those Lufthansa Cargo MD-11Fs still flying in there? Now, that I'd like to see coming in. I miss the old viewing park which was just off that Wilmslow road where one could see the planes real close-up. That was before they built the under-used 2nd Rwy. I didn't see any MD-11Fs today but I'm no expert and you'll find out everything at the Spotter's site here. http://manchesterspotting.t83.net/ I used to park in the Viewing Park but after they hiked the prices I found an alternative viewing site which is on National Trust land and has great views from near 05R/23L fire station. It's raised above the awful new perimeter fencing and you can get shots like these. And here's the link to WideFS. http://secure.simmarket.com/pete-dowson-widefs7.phtml Ray (Cheshire, England). September 4, 201312 yr Hi Ray That's the place I meant. But getting to that fence is job and half up that slope. Great shot, and equally great links. Many thanks. September 5, 201312 yr Author Moderator Ray, can you give a few more examples of apps that might work well using WideFS? Certainly Noel. Radar Contact, FS Flight Keeper and FS Commander to name but a few can all be installed on a different PC to the one running FSX. I run Project Magenta which shows the CDU and glass cockpit for my 737 on a WideFS PC and that means I don't need to show any panel on FS. So frame rates will be higher because all the CPU resources go into drawing the scenery. And the apps themselves benefit because they're not competing with FSX. I could never go back to a single PC running everything. Setting up a network is so simple even I can do it. Dust off those discarded PC and get them running! Hi Ray That's the place I meant. But getting to that fence is job and half up that slope. Great shot, and equally great links. Many thanks. Hi Rick, There is a better access route which bypasses that hill but it means climbing over an Emergency Access gate. But if I can do it at 62 I'm sure you can. Sounds like you're making good progress on the install. Google is your friend when it comes to finding tips and tricks. Ray (Cheshire, England). September 5, 201312 yr Google is your friend when it comes to finding tips and tricks. I detest Google for the way it farms information and bombards with ads, so use an alternative. But I did not have to go down that route as within here I found a stupendous guide put together by a Paul J. Thoroughly recommended. FSX all set up. 36FPS with the new T7. Can't complain at that. Am now re-installing add-ons but for the life of me cannot find my 737NGX downloads. As regards that viewpoint, yes, I know of that long winding walk that takes one to the fence, then it's a matter of clambering over a fence to a bank. Is that the viewpoint you're referring to? Must say, that Win7 OS and FSX loading is very, very fast off the 840 SSD. Chuffed is the byword!! Rick Almeida

It's that viewpoint but you can just walk up the road from the roundabout towards the Emergency Gate. Hop over that, walk 100 yards and there's a low barbed wire fence to your right. Once you're over that it's a short walk to the mound. Saves having to climb that steep bank. Must say, that Win7 OS and FSX loading is very, very fast off the 840 SSD. Chuffed is the byword!! September 5, 201312 yr I think I will stick to your suggestion of a 512Gb and put the pagefile on an HDD. And image/clone to a backup! September 5, 201312 yr I'm now retired so have lots of free time. Hi Ray Ditto here, and what can I say at such a generous offer? I'm stumped. Many, many Thanks. Will be in touch. Just getting to installing REX in the 1Tb hard drive. Samsung Holland have informed me that they have received the faulty 840 SSD and are going to swap it. In a way that worked to my advantage. DHL collected from the door and will deliver to the door without having to go to Aria in Longsight. Rick Almeida
September 5, 201312 yr Author Moderator Hi Rick, Sounds like things are working out well for you. Nice offer from Samsung. You shouldn't be out of pocket with a faulty device. Roll on next summer. September 6, 201312 yr Hi Ray Your confidence in Samsung products was well-founded, in the end, because, just a few minutes ago, DHL delivered a brand new boxed 840 PRO Series 256GB SSD replacement disk from Samsung Holland. Superlative service all within a week. As I have such a surfeit of storage devices, I reckon I'll keep that drive as a spare to fit to a Haswell-CPU'd system I intend to get around to build one day when I can get off my backside to build after having assembled all the hardware courtesy of both Scan, Aria, Novatech ,et al.
