Optimum Take Off Flaps

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone!

How can  or Where can I find information about take off flaps for a given situation?

Which flap shall I use when the aircraft is loaded for a long range flight? And for a short haul??

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

First of all - please sign your post with real name, otherwise it might get deleted. Just an advice...

You would typically use t/o flaps ranging from 10 - 15 degrees. 10 for lighter loads, up to 15 for heavy setup. Keep in mind, that this a/c is rather powerfull and consider using derated t/o settings @ light loads!

But best of all - please take a look in the provided manuals, those will clear up a lot of questions. ;)

Regards,

Really need TOPCAT or charts in this matter if you want to do it like the real thing....hopefully TOPCAT will release the 777 profile soon

Conversely, Flap 28 is used quite a bit for takeoff as it reduces the V speeds and takeoff distance required.

I use Flap 15 most of the time.

If you have a long runway, and are not at MTOM, you can reduce the flap setting, but do be aware of the increased speeds.

Best regards,

Robin.

I seem to recall from the ITVV Martinair MD-11 video that the companies SOP is always to take off with flaps 28..
