September 6, 201312 yr but the other aircraft that came out this week! A2As C172R First I must 'fess up. This is the real G-BRBI: and as you can see it's a C172N. But I thought it was to pretty to pass up. Uploaded to AVSIM. P.S. I just love this thang! The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. September 8, 201312 yr Author 209 downloads and not a single 'view' of this thread. I'm discombobulated. Oh wait, they're immigrants from A2A I guess. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
September 10, 201312 yr Something whats bothering me. ( be assured this is not ment as critisim or your work ) These paints are 4096x4096 wich should be fine but what is in fact a disadvantage. Saving these files as DDS after painting makes the texure "rough" , smooth nicely antialiased lines turn out to be rough and jiggy. Your cheatlines on the front-fuse tend to flow into eachother , I am sure your initial paint was sharp and crisp. This 16 mb files cannot perform better. Saving them to a higher quality DDS, lets say 888-32, keeps the quality very good BUT the file will be approx 60 MB. So allow me the conclusion , this plane is not a fine plane to paint. The complete aircraft on just one huge file is not a good idea. Whe should be better off with more texturefiles in lower resolutions. Ron, its not your fault , its not a comment on your work. Its a comment (NOT A COMPLIMENT) for the makers of the plane. They should have known and done better. They bring us a high res paint with all plane on just one huge sheet. The paintwork itself is not hig res, there is to much plane for one sheet. PS: These days I am painting for X-Plane and X-Plane allows us to use 4096x4096 PNG files without any loss of quality with a file-weight of approx 9Mb. Flawless paints come flawless on the model then.
September 10, 201312 yr Author I'll have a word with them. Oddly enough I don't see 'jiggy'. If I did, I would bother. Cheat lines? What are they? The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
September 10, 201312 yr Cheat lines are " normally " the horizontal lines running the length of the aircraft ( tubeliners ) . Same as with ships . Having fun with this paintkit myself as the sheer size of the texture sheets is giving me no end of memory issues , 8GB memory and using PSP7 and PSP X2 . Still waiting for PayPal to acknowledge my transfer , so don't have the aircraft yet . At least now I can re visit all the C172 repaints that I couldn't make with Carenado version and possibly give my Flight1 paints a makeover . John Glanville
September 11, 201312 yr DXT is a 4:1 compression (unless you are using DXT1 w/ no alpha). If you are painting 4096 and using DXT compression, you can get the same file size by downsizing to 2048 and using 888-8 instead. This way you can dictate what each pixel looks like instead of the DXT compression algorithm. Nice paint, Ron. I don't own the plane but the screenshots look good. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
September 11, 201312 yr Let me show what I mean. This is Ron`s dds texture with new lines and saved as a PNG.( no quality-loss) As you can see lines are much smoother.
September 11, 201312 yr Author Thanks Leen. I shall look at my work in a completely different light from now on. :blush2: The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

MIND: This Cessna has a 4096x texture nevertheless its a LOW-resolution paint. Resolution has nothing to do with texture dimensions. A texture of lets say 1024x can be in an extreme high resolution painting when showing just one wheel. Its the amount of pixels available per square foot of aircraft wich makes a paint hig res or not. I have seen the very high resolution textureset for the ATR by McPhat. The textures are just 2048x2048. BUT............... They used 6 (six) texture-sheets for the fuselage only.!!!!!
