September 7, 201312 yr Dear captains, I haven't been flying the bird much, but from the few times I've taken her up, I found something that either I missed it in the FCOMs or the Introduction document, or I just don't know where to look. Basically 4 things In the ND, when I switch to PLAN mode, is it normal to see an "A" (with a circle, assuming denoting aerodromes) consistently ~~ As in it is not possible to turn it off like in MAP mode? In the CDU "MENU", just about PMDG Setup and FS Actions, I see a couple of options for EFIS CTL and DSP CTL. I had a look at the Introduction document for what they are, but can't seemed to find it. I played around with it as well, also wasn't able to see what effects they had. In the CDU when I use the CDU keyboard to type in characters or numbers, quite often I press on a key and that key was activated twice; ie. if I type ZBAA, the Z or the B or any of the characters I type can appear twice very quickly whereas I only pressed the key once. Finally, this question is just out of curiosity: Knowing the PMDG manuals are ever so comprehensive and complete, there are operation descriptions of systems that was not modeled in the PMDG 777 (as far as I'm aware). So why is it there? Is it because PMDG want to give us a complete AOM so for the customers who are interested can read into it? Or for other reasons? Thanks in advance. Yes, it's an aerodrome, but more specifically it's one designated as an alternate. The 777 selects the nearest suitable alternates for you and displays them in this manner. You can see a list of alternates, and input your own, using the CDU, just press the ALTRN button In the CDU "MENU", just about PMDG Setup and FS Actions, I see a couple of options for EFIS CTL and DSP CTL. I had a look at the Introduction document for what they are, but can't seemed to find it. I played around with it as well, also wasn't able to see what effects they had. You won't normally need to use it. It's there in case the EFIS panel fails or display control switches fail. It simply lets you control these functions from the CDU instead. If you enable either and play around while watching the PFD and ND it should become clear. It's just so we've got the entire manual so we can learn everything about it, and 99% of it will be modeled. Plus it means they didn't have to write a thousand page manual themselves! Jordan Forrest
September 7, 201312 yr It doesn't make sense to display an alternate when there is no need for one. If you wanted to be looking for one, you would turn on ARPT. Strange design imo. Also strange how they threw the strobes in a little switch to the right instead of big and important like the wing and logo lights. Weird.
September 7, 201312 yr If you wanted to be looking for one, you would turn on ARPT. Its easier if you only see the alternate vs a ton of airports cluttering the screen if you are zoomed out on the nav display. Alex Jevdic KORD/KHOT/KPWKA<380 love at first flight
September 7, 201312 yr Indeed the alternate is not there "in case you were looking for one". It is there to give you situational awareness about the relative position to the airports. Remember this is not a 737 which you can plant at just about any piece of tarmac if needed. And it flies all the way out over the wild and oceans all the time. As an aside though.. you should still check whatever is offered. Couple days ago, it offered me LKPC... which is a ultralight place. It does technically have a long paved runway since it used to be an air force alternate, but certainly not 777 ready. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 --Peter Fabian
September 8, 201312 yr Author I see. Any suggestions as to why I'm getting double entries for button presses? Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
