September 12, 201312 yr A few months ago my FS9 installation went down the drain. I purchased Drzewiecki Miami 2012, read the manual where it tells you, if you want to get the best result, disable UT USA from the scenery library. I did that and suddenly my ground textures turned blue all over the world. I tried everything to fix it but it remained. Because of that, I uninstalled FS9 and any related add on. While I was at it, I decided to get a new hard drive. I went out and purchased a 250gig SSD for FSX and FS9. I reinstalled FSX and its associated add ons first. Got it running really good and been flying it for the last few months. Then last night out of nowhere, I thought maybe I should reinstall FS9. Took me a while to finally get to this because I have so much stuff for it. I also have a lot of stuff for FSX but it always seem less painful to reinstall than FS9. So I've got all my basics installed now (UT, ai, GEP, Carenado, etc). The only scenery add on I have installed at the moment other than GEP is Miami 2012. I never even got the chance to try it out after I purchased it a few months back. This scenery is excellent. Very large coverage. I did my flight at dusk and the night textures are incredible. I'm going to try again with UT night lighting enabled. I really enjoy flying in FS9 because I have it customized more to my liking. I love the Real H2O V2 water add on, upgraded trees, grass, sky, sun, etc. But best of all, having a sim running at 60fps is just killer. The 30fps I get in FSX doesn't have the fluidity of 60fps in FS9. It's great to be back and flying both sims again  . Nature Boy

September 12, 201312 yr I heard rotary wings pilots need/want higher fps than 30 to control their stuff. Not sure you earn much with 60 fps in fixed wings planes. The irony is, after being a parallel user myself for a couple of years, now with the first decent B777 for FSX I'm finally starting to uninstall my FS9. What happened to AVSIM
September 12, 201312 yr Author I heard about that as well. I find myself pretty sensitive to fps. Been like that since I was a kid playing 16/32-bit consoles. My friends used to think I was nuts because I always talked about smoothness and fluidity, especially when an arcade version of a racing game gets butchered to run on a console. I didn't even know what fps was at the time. Don't get me wrong. FSX is smooth at 30fps, but for me 40-60fps have that fluid motion I never get at 30. The only way I can think of to describe it is "silky smooth". I like having both sims and enjoy them both equally. I even have the PMDG MD-11 for both fsx and fs9 lol. Glad to hear you're enjoying the 777. I'm waiting for the boxed release. I purchased the NGX a month ago and it's absolutely insane. The BEST aircraft add on I've tried so far. It far exceeded my expectations. I hope the 777 will give me that wow factor when I get it. And with the DX10 fixer coming out, things are going to get very exciting. Nature Boy
September 12, 201312 yr Moderator Who's Sascha? What kind of textures is he releasing? It's being beta tested right now... http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?80737-FS9-Xtreme-Evolution-beta-testers-wanted! Please read through the entire Thread... this replaces Default autogen and World Textures, and if you're running 3rd party anything regarding Scenery (airports, mesh, REX, etc.), you will probably run into CTD's, errors and other stuff. Best for Sascha to run the Beta process all the way through; lots of Updates and tweaks are still being worked out. Look at the recent screenies... it's looking pretty good!
September 12, 201312 yr Author Thanks VP. It looks nice but I'll have to pass on Sascha's textures. I have too many scenery add ons and don't want to give them up. I'll be staying with GEP for global coverage. Nature Boy

September 12, 201312 yr Author Thanks Viper. I will keep an eye on it. Maybe it will be compatible with other add ons in the future. I'm looking forward to seeing some screen shots of it without ENB when it's released. Nature Boy
September 14, 201312 yr Moderator Jon_aus, I'm not knocking FS9 Evolution; it looks very good, and I suspect will function very well. I just wanted to let the OP know that it's a work in progress, and that one could encounter issues with other Scenery. For someone coming back to the FS fold after a break might find the Install a little daunting. You have to admit; the Author is still tweaking the Scenery somewhat, and in the end he'll have an awesome product for FS 9!
September 14, 201312 yr I had same issue with my FS9, I'm reainstalling it for the 5th time now lol But I always thought its either the UT Terrain from Flight1, or the Miami 2012 Scenery, how did you solve your problem, which one of these 2 did you had to delete ?

Hi Vitea, Unfortunately I had to delete everything and start fresh. Now that everything is up and running, I don't disable UT when I fly around the Miami 2012 scenery because I'm afraid it might happen again. Instead, I just go to UT's menu and disable all roads. Usually by doing this, you get more autogen. Everything looks perfectly fine as far as I can tell. I don't think there's really a need to disable UT. Doing so may mess up the FS9 install as you and I experienced lol. Nature Boy
September 30, 201312 yr I don't think there's really a need to disable UT. Doing so may mess up the FS9 install as you and I experienced lol. Disabling UT from inside fs9 is a bad idea, because if you forget you did this and make a second change using the internal tool, you'll mess up the recognition of the external UT installer, you might get anything from disappearing lights, reappearing fs9 default buildings up to CTDs. That said, the EVo textures should be compatible with any addons that don't change default textures eg GE Pro etc. Programs which install runway and weather textures will usually just install their own textures over the EVo textures on starting. The Beta issues we had so far were all related to wrong texture formats for a couple of specific files which we managed to identify and then change to an accepted format. October 1, 201312 yr Author Hi Sascha, The manual tells you to disable UT USA via the scenery library. I didn't re-configure UT at all afterwards and it messed up my FS9. So if anybody is using or plan to get Miami 2012, DON'T touch UT in the scenery library. It messed mine and Vitea's install. Nature Boy
