September 16, 201312 yr hi Thanks again for your reply. I used to runthe gtx550ti considering lot of the settings your mentioning. For this i followed Word Not Allowed's tweak guide. I will try out the ones i haven't tries before. I know which are the FPS killing add-ons etc... Thats not the point for me. I am just astonished that i almost don't see any differences between the 550ti and the 680. I even feel that some sceneries are running worse. I am certainly not expecting miracles here, but just some improvement compared to the previous setup. Don't you agree? Hiya, sure, I understand your frustration and probably my advice is ill thought out to a degree simply because, as you have stated, it's a direct comparison between the two cards that you are concerned with. However, I think one of the biggest problems we all suffer from with FSX is that we expect too much from a hardware upgrade and no more so than a GPU upgrade. I think I said earlier, and this will be supported by others, upgrading your GPU will not deliver a big increase in frames, if any, as FSX is a CPU bound program. What it will do, obviously depending on the card and the degree of upgrade, is to render better anti aliasing and texture filtering. It is also reported that Nvidia cards, beyond the 500 series in particular, can give better frame performance in cloud due to the advancement in the GPU architecture. So, if you are looking to gain better frames by upgrading from the 550ti to the 680, then apart from a little gain in cloud, I'm afraid you are likely to be disappointed. September 16, 201312 yr by upgrading from the 550ti to the 680, then apart from a little gain in cloud, Howards correct. Regardless of what others get on here and say about this huge increase in performance. A little gain in clouds like 2 or 3 FPS. Just be thankful you didnt spend a 1000 bucks on a Titan. I use to update the latest a greatest GPU. Not no more, They maxed out in a 580 for FSX anyways.

Just be thankful you didnt spend a 1000 bucks on a Titan. I use to update the latest a greatest GPU. Not no more, They maxed out in a 580 for FSX anyways. Hey, How can i then increase the FPS? My aim is to be able to have big airports (for example CDG) with PMDG 737 NGX at a minimum of 20fps and being able to fly in the clouds at 30fps. Should i get more GHZ than 4.2? Should i get a higher PSU? right now i have: I5 3570k @ 4.2ghz 8gb ram PSU 500W HD 7200 rpm GTX 680 4gb
September 17, 201312 yr Should i get more GHZ than 4.2? Should i get a higher PSU? If you overclock higher it will improve your FPS for sure, 20FPS at CDG might be achievable for you depending onyour settings. What model is your PSU? Personally I wouldn't go with less than a good quality 650W PSU for a single card system, but that's just me. -Anthony Young- "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci

September 17, 201312 yr While you're current PSU is probably just about enough, it would be far preferable to have something like750w. Some would argue that 500 is too low. However, thePSU won't have any affect on frames. Apologies if we have covered this... Are you running with any tweaks? September 17, 201312 yr Not saying you need to upgrade your PSU, but like I said I would go with a 650W PSU for a system like yours. Specially if you plan to overclock more. Something like Corsair HX 650. -Anthony Young- "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci
September 17, 201312 yr Author Are you running with any tweaks? Dear, I am running Word Not Allowed's fsx software and hardware guide tweaks if that is what you mean... ?
September 17, 201312 yr OK, well I can't remember if Word Not Allowed includes the Bufferpools tweak, if not, then it can provide you with a substantial increase in performance. If you have not got it included, then add this to your FSX cfg. (after first saving a backup copy of your cfg) [bufferPools] PoolSize=0 This tweak works for some and not so well for others. While I am suggesting this tweak, I do so purely as a suggestion and do not advocate the long term use of tweaks without proper testing. If you get any graphical flashes or similar anomalies, this will be due to GPU overload, in which case you will have to undergo some further testing. I will do some testing tonight playing with the nvidia inspector settings... i'll let you know i i get better performance. Do you think my fps will drop more if i use 3 screens on my gtx 680 with nvidia surround? Or is it better to buy one big screen (32")?
September 17, 201312 yr Do you think my fps will drop more if i use 3 screens on my gtx 680 with nvidia surround? Or is it better to buy one big screen (32")? FPS will definitely drop if you move to 3 screens or to a single monitor at a higher resolution. What size monitor/resolution are you using now? -Anthony Young- "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci
September 17, 201312 yr Author FPS will definitely drop if you move to 3 screens or to a single monitor at a higher resolution. What size monitor/resolution are you using now? Right now i am using a single screen 22" monitor 1650x1200. I was planning to use 3 x 22" or 24" screens 1920x1080. But i am not sure, depending on how much it affects the fps... Maybe one single large monitor is better?
September 17, 201312 yr Have you tried using 3 screens before to see if you like it? Maybe at a friends place or something. Personal preference for me is one larger screen. I've just gone from a 24" 1920x1080 to a 27" 2560x1440 screen. For me the increase in size was nice but it was the increase in resolution that really blew me away. -Anthony Young- "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci

September 17, 201312 yr Just a thought:: bring down your AI to 20 or 30 and look at the results. Pierre What Pierre said - I recently went from a 560ti to a GTX760 and am underwhelmed by FSX's reaction to it! Anyway for the last 2 days have been looking at many posts about many tweaks - it seems AI was the FPS killer for me. I run GAIT and it doesn't appear to scale back, its either 100% or nothing for that AI pack. When AI is off - everything runs fine. The big difference between the 560 and 760 is its ability to run all the antialiasing goodness. Oh, and my PSU is 450W - running a watercooled 2500k at 4.5GHz, 8GB, 256GB SSD and GTX760 - all in a mini itx shoe box - its all about the quality of the PSU. The 80 Bronze / Gold rated ones will do the job I can attest.
