She's Gone! (My Computer)

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, one of the saddest posts is coming.

So last night, I bought one of my first scenery addons - GEX and UTX for the USA, I got the NGX a while back and planned to fly Southwest Airlines. Taking the suggestion from GEX themselves, I defragmented my hard drive after installing them.

After defragment I planned out my first flight, and shut down my computer, so I could restart it and be able to have more RAM etc.

Once I pressed the ON button - I was greeted with one of the most unpleasant surprises of my life.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

I didn't know what this meant and took it as just a 1-time boot error.

After 3 more re-boots, I realized this wasn't any 1-time fluke per se.

I researched it as much as I could - but nothing would work. I found out that the error generally meant that the computer is "on it's way out" I guess you could say. This has been the computer I've used since FSX came out - even with low SPECS it ran beautifully with the NGX, and other tools and scenery.

But - there's nothing I can do. She's gone my friends. FSX is my hobby.

I need a new computer now - but I'm only 14 - and in the US you need to be 16 to work - and I don't know how I am going to get money for a new computer. There's nothing I can do! I'm open to suggestions or nearly anything else. All I want is my hobby back. 14 - highschool - stress - whatever else and FSX kept me going - aviation is my passion and will be no matter what.

All I want:

my hobby back.

Suggest whatever you may here - be it possible fixes to the impossible problem, new computers, ways to make money, I don't know - just help me out here would 'ya?

Thanks, Jeremy.

Regards, Jeremy Chesney

Sorry about your luck kid...it sounds to me like you need another harddrive. I hope your had all of your addons backed up on seperate drive!

btw...I have all my addons backed up on two seperate drives.

Intel i7 10700K | Asus Maximus XII Hero | Asus TUF RTX 3090 | 32GB HyperX Fury 3200 DDR4 | 1TB Samsung M.2 (W11) | 2TB Samsung M.2 (MSFS2020) | Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280mm AIO | 43" Samsung Q90B | 27" Asus Monitor

Try using system restore in Safe Mode, if you have any save points, or try running a repair install of your Operating System.

What OS are your using ?

I had the same problem a few years ago and I'm still using the same computer, so don't take the "on it's way out" comments to heart.

I'm 14 to, ask your parents for an allowance, my parents give me $50 a week, if I just do the dish washer... Or you could just go around your neighbor hood and ask around... See if anyone needs some help or something, If you live in a wealthy area like me you can make $500 for just watching 2 dogs for 1 hour a day for a month. I come home from high school and walk 2 dogs, and take care of a kid, the dogs are the kids, I just take them all to the park, you have to have integrity to... Try to get a constant job like this, I'm making a constant $500 a month!

I see you're running Windows xp, so, take a look at this:

If it's a damaged file system case then:-

1.Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.

2.When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.

3.If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.

4.When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.

5.At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r , and then press ENTER.

6.At the command prompt, type exit , and then press ENTER to restart your computer.

This takes a bit longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.

Give it a shot and see if it works, if not, we'll try something else. You haven't lost her yet.

Im on WinXP. The area we live is middle class but the neighbors arent the nicest of people. A job like that sounds great but i cant get one in my area. Safe mode doesnt work, it gets to loading windows then it hits.

Ive tried hitting R but it refuses to load anything, even with the disk in.

Also. Have you tried looking in MS support ?

What about the allowance idea? By not "nice" what exactly do you mean? Maybe they just don't know you very well... I bet you could make a good $200 a month if you worked at it.

Ill have to see about that. My parents appear to be open minded about a new computer. But we will have to see.

Ive looked at MS Support and it wont work.

I followed the instructions and it doesnt resolve the issue.

RESOLUTION

If it be the connector cable problem then replace the 40-wire cable with an 80-wire UDMA cable.
If it's a BIOS settings problem then  load the 'Fail-Safe' default settings, and then reactivate the most frequently used options such as USB Support.

6.At the command prompt, type exit , and then press ENTER to restart your computer.

This takes a bit longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.

or try this:-

XP Directions:

1. Insert your XP installation disc into an optical drive and boot up your computer.
2. When you see a welcome screen, hit the R key on your keyboard. This will enter you into recovery mode with a DOS prompt.
3. Now type chkdsk /p and hit Enter. This will launch a utility which will check for errors on your hard drive.
4. After the process is done, type fixboot and hit Enter to repair any damaged boot files which may have become corrupted. When asked to say yes or no, type the Y key on your keyboard.
5. Type exit and press the Enter key to reboot your computer.

You probably will need to think about getting a new HD.
