September 15, 201312 yr I've decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to Win 7 64 bit. What's the recommended way to upgrade the OS and reinstall FS9? Any difference between Win 7 64 professional and home? What is the preferred Win 7 version? Is there a FS9/Win 7 tweak guide? Appreciate comments in advance. September 15, 201312 yr I think it was Dillon that made up a guide some time ago in the OS forum. The only thing I can recommend is set everything to run as administrator, get the 4 GB patch, and do not install in C:\program files (x86) directory. It is a lengthy process but worth the effort. Don't blame for my name, my parents were hippies and met in Woodstock
September 15, 201312 yr I agree with Jon's comment about Win 7's stability. I just installed it to a new folder called "FS9". I DID install the 4GB patch. (Search the forums, or Google it...) Getting the Scenery Library to work is frustrating until you know the trick - unfortunately, it's been so long, I forget it myself. And you will have to re-install some some aircraft and some sceneries. Other things just copy over with no problems. I'd suggest starting the process and then either search the forums, or post again if you run into any issues. Good luck, and happy flying! Ron
September 16, 201312 yr What is this 4GB patch? Is it a patch to for Win7 or FS9? I don't remember installing any 4GB patch. Nature Boy
September 16, 201312 yr A technical expert I'm not, but if I remember, it's a patch that lets FS9 see/address the larger memory available in Win 7 systems; as WinXP rarely had that much. Since Jon said he didn't use it, perhaps you want to try it that way first.
September 16, 201312 yr Cool. Thanks guys. I've never gotten any OOM. Is there any performance benefits? Nature Boy
