I'm going to do some comparisons now.  If I come across anything in DX10 that looks close to it, I'll grab a shot.

Thanks for the heads up on the sun tweak.  I'll check it out.

Well, I give up.  My PC just can't handle bloom in DX9.  I tried a few different suns from REX and AS2012 in DX10 but none of them give those thick rays like the ones on the shots.

I'm still blown away by the bloom in DX10 though.

Can you post some pics of bloom in dx10...are you getting blob like VASI lights. I wish i had a pic so I can compare. I may get around switching back over to dx10 this weekend and mess around again. Everything else with dx10 is a win...except bloom imo.

The VASI seems fine for me as far as I can remember.  No different than the PAPI.  I left all my airport lights at default.  Maybe you installed some REX lights?  I still get the regular bloom on them but I can still see the lights.

I posted quite a few pics of DX10 with bloom in this thread... http://forum.avsim.net/topic/422259-dx10bloomshadewow/

Pics are on post #'s 4 and 10.  I also posted a vid on post #13.  Everything is with bloom.

Is there a particular type of shot you're looking for?

What is it about DX10 bloom that you're not happy with?

Cool video! I need to get around to doing one soon. But I didn't see any of the streak of light effects on any of those shots.

For example...you can see the runway lights in your first pic.

And the VASI lights in the second...plus look at the sun.

You are not get the streaks of light refraction like in the final pic I took in dx9. You are getting blobs of light. The sun doesn't streak either in your pic. I've tried in dx10 but something is not working with the dx10 bloom or with the REX light effects. Plus the sun reflection moving around the cockpit doesn't work. Maybe if Steve or someone from REX got a hold of this thread, they could probably clue us in about this.

Look at the light streaking from the sun

Gotcha.  I don't think DX10 bloom can do those streaks.  Something I noticed when I first got FSX and was playing around with DX9/DX10.  This was before I tried Steve's fix or his freeware version.  I've never seen those streaks in DX10.

That's pretty much the only thing missing in the bloom.  But I notice that in DX10, the bloom around individual points of lights are much better especially with UTX night lighting and you can see when you're lined up on the runway at dusk or night.  Just something you might want to take notice when you try DX10 again.

Would be interesting though if someone can figure out how to get the streaks, but I'm still very happy without them.

I have it set pretty extreme in those pics, just to get an idea. It really is amazing, because what the pics don't show is the streaks moving as you move around. It really adds a lot of realism and immersion, especially in pics and vidz. But unfortunately in dx9 is something to play with occasionally but to have set permanently, not gonna happen in fsx.

I remember when I did that in DX9 with everything maxed out.  I thought the GPU fan was going to fly off.  It was a slide show but it looked very impressive and at times, maybe to excessive when you zoom out.

It's pretty neat but I don't feel one better than the other.  They're different.  The DX10 bloom has a more soothing and atmospheric look for me, and the water is super with the right animation and settings.  Seeing the entire ocean glow and shimmer around TNCM during the day looks amazing.  I'm not sure if DX9 has that.

I forgot earlier, the sun intensity can be just as intense as the DX9 shot.  But it won't have the streaks.  It looked small there because it was very early dawn.

Since you really enjoy the streaks, I can understand how you feel about DX10 bloom.
