November 27, 200421 yr I have always had an interest in WWII aircraft but have always had a really difficult time finding good ones in FS. There are soem great FS WWII birds out there flying around but, for the most part, this is an area that doesn't get a lot of attention.I noticed a few "Wings of Power" reviews here and there and always figured, "how good can this be with that many aircraft for only $30?". Like many, Abaucs publishing has left me weary of any "aircraft pack" that has come out. Being known for a multitude of disappointing aspects, Abacus has left me somewhat jaded.Well, yesterday I just said screw it and went out and bought "Wings of Power". My expectations were quite low, but for the possibility of flying a B-29 I decided to try it out. I figured it is only $30 and I get some interesting aircraft.Came home, got it installed, loaded up FS, and chose the B-29 from the aircraft menu........Flight loaded and almost immediately I noticed a difference from anything I have seen of the "plane pack" variety. The 2D panel was great and it had a lot of pop-up windows, including all the various instruments and gauges. Not merely a few gauges here and there...this aircraft is LOADED. Very impressed.Next I went to the VC, another area of disappointment for me in the past. WOW, the VC is VERY clear with animated flight controls. Not all fuzzy and hard to read. And of course, the view out of the beheamoths nose is extraordinary! Sound wise, the B-29 seemed to be exactly like how I would picture a huge 4 engine bomber to sound. Loud, rumbling, powerful engines. No aliased Cessna sounds here, folks. Blah...blah...blah...blah...how's it fly? right? ;)GREAT. The Shockwave team REALLY payed close attention to the flight modeling. No taking off at 90kts. in 500ft, NO F-16C aileron/elevtor control, and no having to yank back on the throttles after takeoff to keep the airspeed from shooting through the roof. She's big, she's heavy, and she takes a while to get going. The takeoff, climbout, cruise, etc.. all followed the specs in the manual provided. Nothing seemed out of place and nothing made me say, "#####" to myself. Again, I was extremely impressed. In closing, I'm not sure what to say (LOL...after having just wrote the above!). The whole product leaves me in awe. The B-29A is just one of the 9 aircraft included in the package, and so far, the other aircraft are of the same very high quality. Shockwave Productions did exactly what I think SHOULD be done in EVERY aircraft pack. The "Wings of Power" product is WAY under priced for what you get. Great models, great sounds, and great flight modeling...oh, did I mention, you also get a 157 pg. printed manual detailing each aircraft performance figures and such. :-eek What a great product. I just cannot say enough good things about it. I DEFINATELY reccommend this product to ALL WWII aviation (heck, anybody who is a fan of good aircraft add-ons!) to don't walk, run to check this out. Simply fantastic. P.S. Sorry for writing so much. I really am awe struck by this product and at this price. November 28, 200421 yr Hey Shane I could not agree with you more. I too bought ** thinking that there may be one maybe two good quality planes in it, and the others not really very good at all. When I got home and loaded it up, I was stunned. There's not a dude in the bunch. From the sounds, textures, flight models, etc... it's all very well done indeed. If you like WWII era planes at all, you owe it to yourself to check this package out. You will not regret it.HawkP.S. They are doing a P-51 Mustang that looks like a must have!
November 28, 200421 yr Author They're doing a P-51 as well??WOW!Good news indeed. Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3
November 28, 200421 yr Welcome to the group of happy owners!! :Dhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/99058.jpg
November 28, 200421 yr Author Good to be a part of the group, Ridge!I am VERY suprised I haven't heard more about this add-on. Every single part of the package is top-knotch. No aircraft package is perfect but this one comes darn close!!BTW, a P-51 was mentioned above. Is there a video or screenshots of it? I went to the forums but couldn't find anything.Thx! November 28, 200421 yr Just curious, do they model the flight engineers panel in the B29 as a seperate panel? Fitz
November 28, 200421 yr If ya likes that one then ya should run right down ta MAAM-Sim and get the two packages they have for ya. First up is a Douglas R4D and DC-3 (with and without sponsons for water landings), then the Mitchell B-25J "Briefing Time". The latter has more than 15 repaints for it that I know of. There could certainly be more now. The quality is certainly as good as, and perhaps just a skosh better, than the ** set. YMMV but I like like MAAM's planes just a bit better. ** is only my SECOND choice for flying. :D
November 28, 200421 yr Author > Just curious, do they model the flight engineers panel>in the B29 as a seperate panel?>> FitzYes.It is a pop-up. Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3

November 28, 200421 yr If anyone is interested, I just saw Wings of Power on sale in CompUSA for $19. At that price it is a steal! Pete S. 10th gen CPU I7-10700K, MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Edge MB, RAM 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB-DDR4 3600, 2X 1TB Sabrent Rocket Q M.2 Nvme SSD. Enermax RGB CPU Liquid Cooler.(Still waiting on Evga RTX 3080 Video)
December 4, 200421 yr On recommendation, I was directed over to our local CompUSA store where I picked up "Wings of Power" add-on.Very Nice!!As said, detail. flight model, sounds, VC all nicely done. Seems strange we all get excited when a software developer gets it right.Shockwave did a nice job, and should be rewarded with our business, if you like flying big 4 engine WW2 bombers. I've only flown 2 so far, the B-17F and Avro Lancaster Mk III.B-17 seems to handle appropriatly, as does the more powerful Lancaster. Bringing up the throttles on 4 Merlin engines tingles my spine.I also noticed the Luftwaffe jets throttle characteristics seem to be modeled right, with lots of lag time and a too-much too-little dilemna when taxiing.I also like the exhaust smoke on start-up. From what I've seen at air shows, these engines will blow white oily smoke on ignition, as well as for awhile after ignition. Looks great! Thanks Shockwave!Rick
December 8, 200421 yr Just bought Wings of Power a few days ago and I am having a good time flyin the B-29. Only one problem for me so far: I can not land it without BOUNCING 2-3 time up to a height of 35" or so. Is anyone else having this problem, when landing? Jerrycwo4
