MegaSceneryEarth 2.0 Ultra-Res Cities

Hi Manny ..... Just curious why you say this...

I may have misread you.. I thought you find photoscenery better than sceneries with well placed autogens.

When I started simming.. I did not care for any non photoscenery.. I flew exclusively Megascenery... and slowly acquired a taste for autogens and well placed autogen scenery over flat photo textures like Orbx and other good non photoscenery addons. Only time where non autogen Photostextures still hold good are desert areas,.,,

I remember owning Aerosofts Germany scenery for FS9 (well done autogens) and how they are so superior IMO, over todays Aerosofts' Germany Photo scenery with poorly done autogens

Ahh ok, thanks for clarifying. I use UTX, GTX and REX. No matter how low and slow you get they look good. It's just that Philadelphia Ultra Res is temping because that's where I live.

Thats true..if you are familiar with an area very well like our hometown, when its not exactly the same, we can't accept an autogen area.

Rob (Robains),

Out of interest, can I ask if you are running MSE Ultra-Res products from a SSD or a regular hard drive?

I'm a high-flyer and MSE Ultra-Res together with Fly Tampa's Boston Logan I can get over the lack of autogen. I think my system won't work with more buildings like Drzewiecki's New York Scenery.

For the lack of night light I consider to buy FTX Global.

Now a question to PCAviator. Do you know if MSE someday release Canadian Cities? I'm thinking of a Ultra-Res Toronto.

I don't have an answer for this one at the current time. The focus will be on U.S. cities for the Ultra-Res to begin with. It also comes down to whether high-resolution imagery is available for any Canadian cities or not. It is not on the immediate radar as far as I know, but that could change at any time.

I chuckled at one of the posts above in which they yanked all of their MSE products off their HD because they didn't like the fact that there were no objects around the airports and landings.   I too thought I would not like it at all but then I realized something.   During a take off, I don't even see the ground once I rotate and I am way to busy to care because I am flying departure procedures, setting autopilot, running after take off checklists and by the time I am done with that I am upward near 3000 AGL and MSE shines over 1500 AGL.    I do miss a little buildings during landings but really I am focused on getting the plane prepared for landing and when I am coming in I am focused on the runway and my instruments.    I am actually trying out a little experiment using Image Scenery III and adding my own buildings around key default airports I come in and out of and see if I can produce an acceptable approach look.    At payware airports I don't care at all that there is no autogen crap around the airport as most payware airports are so detailed they block out the fact that the land around it is without autogen buildings.

With all my other add-ons and NGX running, I can tell you I don't miss autogen.   I went from LOD 4.5 Autogen FTX Global scenery at around 22 FPS during landings (worse in bad weather) to running LOD 8.5 on every flight with an average FPS rate now of 50-60 across 3 24" monitors.    It made me realize how badly damaging autogen is to frame rates in mega payware aircraft like the 737 NGX.    I wish I could have it all but alas, I am very happy now with my MSE setup going.   It is not for everyone but I learned to love all it's pro's and not mind it's cons.

I am trying to find the thread here at AVSIM where someone asked whether Dallas/Fort-Worth would be done with MSE Ultra-Res textures... Can't seem to locate it, but since this is a MSE UR thread, I'll just paste some updated info here on the question and hopefully the person that asked the question will see it...

Quick answer... YES! Dallas/Fort-Worth will be available MSE Ultra-Res series. I checked last night and got confirmation that this city is on the map for MSE UR.

In addition, we will likely have up to 30 major US Cities covered in the MSE UR Cities series within the next 12 months (likely well within that range based on past release schedules) . Please do not ask for a list. I would love to give you that but I don't have one at present and can only give an indication of immediately upcoming future cities. Beyond that, projects and plans can and do change on a regular basis.

The next 2 planned cities for MSE UR are: Charlotte and Washington DC/Baltimore!
