October 12, 201312 yr Hello, during dusk, dawn and night PAPI lights disappear on most addon airports under different point of views. Also threshold markings, taxiway markings and red lights disappear. on the first picture everything is fine: here you can see the missing lights. I have only changed my viewpoint by some degrees. I also changed the legacy slider by one dot to "scenery" with no success. Especially disappearing PAPI lights are not really funny on approach. Is this problem intended to be fixed with the next update Steve? Regards Chris Intel i9 12900K, Asus ROG Strix Gaming Z690-A Wifi D4, GSkill 32gb, RTX 4090 Regards Chris Kathi
October 12, 201312 yr Commercial Member Disable effects and try again. This is a legacy airport? Which one? If it's a legacy airport then a ballast will normally fix it. My FSX Analysis Blog
October 13, 201312 yr Author This Airport is EDDH (Hamburg) from Aerosoft's German Airports 3, but adding a ballast light didn't work as remco already said. What do you mean with disable effects? I uninstalled the library then installed the library again without ticking the "DX10 Compatible Effects" Button, but also with no success. October 13, 201312 yr Commercial Member I bought the airport EDDH. Effects disabled - Aircraft Lights off (includes when the aircraft is a plane spotter with no lights) Runways lights are the first effect in the scene and so get hit with the full force of the DX10 effects bugs - so strange light cutoffs etc exactly as you describe. Effects disabled - Aircraft Lights On - the aircraft lights now take the hit of the DX10 effects bug - runways lights operate correctly. What happens varies a bit depending on whether the aircraft lights are embedded in the model or are in the aircraft.cfg. Effects enabled - Runway lights are turned on and off by the landing lights. Some aircraft may experience strange cutoffs without a ballast. I am sorry, but without access to the C++ code but there can never be a total fix for the DX10 light effects system. October 13, 201312 yr Author Thank you for your efforts Steve. So the only chance that these airports will work properly is a DX10 patch by the developers. In case of Aerosoft however, I really have my doubts they will do this. Regards Chris Intel i9 12900K, Asus ROG Strix Gaming Z690-A Wifi D4, GSkill 32gb, RTX 4090 Regards Chris Kathi
October 13, 201312 yr Commercial Member For those airports with the big jets and standard lights it seems that you must have the aircraft landing lights on for the airport runway lights to function reliably. GA aircraft seem to work ok with any lighting circuit on (and a ballast if effects are enabled) My FSX Analysis Blog
October 15, 201312 yr /signup here. Same Problem in Aerosoft EDDE. Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tte3EZSa91U Its mostly ok when the "compatible Lights and Effects" are off, but sometimes the Lights still disappear. Same Problem in LOWI (Aerosoft too). Steve says ist an Aerosoft Problem. Maybe someday there will be a Fix for it... Ia it not possible just to Change the File which contains the Lights?
October 16, 201312 yr Commercial Member It not a really an Aerosoft problem but unfortunately only they could provide a workaround. The fundamental problem is that DX10 effects system has bugs in it. This is why aircraft lights don't work as they should in DX10. To some extent this can be worked around which is what the effects button tries to do. The problem is that when a legacy airports use the "Light" ASM command in their code (not all legacy airports do this by the way) it is implemented in the FSX engine as a DX10 effect but not one that can be converted in any way i.e it doesn't reference an external effects.fx file. As you say in this case the best results are achieved with the Effects fix OFF, but even then there can be moments where the lights will cut off at certain viewing angles - the extent of this can be influenced by the plane that you use. In this case the only full solution would be to reimplement the runway lights with a different technique - e,g using a FSX SDK technique. But only Aerosoft could really do this. By the way the airport looks visually better with the slider in position 5 I find. My FSX Analysis Blog
