November 4, 201312 yr I am doing new install on new unit.I do not design scenery etc, just install pay and freeware addons.Do I need to install SDK?Thanks,Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
November 4, 201312 yr YES, you need to install the SDK--the SimConnect interface that many addons depend on is installed as part of the SDK. You'll need to install the original SDK and the updates for it in sequence (SP1a, and then either SP2 or Acceleration, which includes a variant of SP2 to the SDK). The SDK with SimConnect came only with the Pro edition of FSX--the SP1a, SP2 and/or Acceleration SDKs will not install without the original first being installed. November 4, 201312 yr Commercial Member The guy above is talking nonsense. Simconnect works just fine with a normal installation. (and this is from someone who has actually made an aircraft that uses simconnect and has tested it on a FSX acceleration system without the SDK installed and said plane works just fine) There is absolutely no need for anyone to install the SDK unless they specifically need the tools within the SDK (ie they need to make scenery or models). As far as I am aware the installation of the SDK makes absolutely no changes to the FSX installation. www.antsairplanes.com

Regards IF that were the case, why wouldnt the default install just install the sdk? Simconnect works without installing the sdk and certain simconnect files are installed with the default installation. If customized simconnect setting are required one would need the necceassary simconnect sdk files that are contained in the sdk folder..I have the SDK installed on a seperate computer for developement.

November 5, 201312 yr OK...I went back to my install notes, and the reason I had to install the SDKs was to set up SimConnect to work on a second networked PC--the client installers are part of the simconnect package. So if all you're going to do is run addons on the same machine as FSX, you won't need the SDK. Sorry for the confusion.
