Version 1.1 build 24 (invisible AI traffic lights)

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Hello, I see a problem of disappearing lights of AI aircraft when you zoom, sometimes you can see the lights then slightly moving the camera lights disappear. The problem does not appear in DX9.

Steve an idea? knowing that the problem is supposed to be solved.

Regards.

Not every problem with dx10 lights is solved and nor can be easily.

What I have tried to address is the long range visibility of ai lights with ai packages that use the standard nav light effects, where visibility was reported as fine without the conversion of effects. This is done by avoiding converting the effects. This raises a secondary issue that in the aircraft you are flying the lights may not work, the change was therefore to find a way to make those lights work without requiring the effects change.

Now what you describe sounds like an issue with legacy fs8 ai aircraft that uses legacy asm point lights rather than effects. These will have issues with visibility angles. This occurs when there is not an effect light visible in the scene. Zooming past your aircraft nav lights will introduce this phenomena. It may be possible to address this by adding a ballast light to every ai aircraft configuration file, but that is a lot of work.

Another detail, I use 3D lights redux + Ultimate traffic 2 + Aerosft DR400

Moreover, what is strange is that I can see by the time AI lights through the clouds and then I move the camera angle slightly and everything disappears

With the 182T caranado it seems to work for now

Ok ty Steve, if we target the problem that originates from the DR400.

Hmm I analyze too fast, the problem also appears on carenado 182T, this issue is not easy to understand   ... However a big thank you to you steeve is an efficient software to play DX10

Hello,

here are my observations with AI traffic lights after installing Fixer 1.1. Up to yesterday evening I had mostly installed FAIB aircraft by using Shockwave lights. The problem was that I did not see the nav lights as soon as the aircraft had taken off.

Then I changed all FAIB aircraft lights to default one, so I could use the DX10 fixer compatibility lights. Now I saw many aircraft at wider distances - very good! But there is one problem left. While the aircraft were taxing sometimes the green nav light dissapeared and after a few seconds they reappeared again. Then shortly after the aircrafts started to takeoff the nav lights completly disappeared - only the beacon light was to be seen. A few seconds after the aircraft took off, all nav lights came back again.

Is that a Problem, that can be solved, too? Or perhaps could this be a problem of the airport? I've made all these tests on Aerosoft's EDDF airport.

On ai you can try comparing disabling and enabling effects. If things are better with effects off, then you can try and exclude the redux effects from the conversion process.

Hello Steve . I have the same AI lights disappearing issue. I am using build 24. I confirmed that turning off the effects and reinstalling the library brought the AI light visible again. It appears to affect all aircraft. I use UT2 and Shockwave lights but I don't believe that makes any difference.

What else does the effects library impact when it is disabled. I just want to make sure I don't post a problem if I see another issue that is related to not installing the effects library. Thanks

I imagine that your ai aircraft use the shockwave lights and converting them causes your issue.

Without effects your most likely problem will be some street lights (although not ftx global lights) which may go off and on as you look around. I would imagine that shockwave will ensure that most of your aircraft work ok.

Hello Steve,

can you say something about the problem I have described a few posts earlier?

I have made further tests on "newer" airports (e.g. FS DreamTeam KLAX). The problem is there present, too. There are parts of the taxiways where the AI aircraft Nav lights disappear, and a few seconds later they are visible again. When the aircrafts are on the runway the Nav lights disappear and after they are in the air for a few seconds the Nav lights are visible again, and then they stay visible.

I am using the default Nav lights which are converted by the DX10 fixer.

Thanks,
Patric

Sorry I thought that it was already answered in post 4.

Without access to the core software to fix the bug in the effects code nothing can be fixed, just worked around to a greater or lesser extent.

The main reported problem was that at long distances AI lights on planes using the default nav lights were visible with default DX10 but the effects fix had a side effect of reducing their visibility to zero.  To avoid converting those nav lights I have in build 24 modified the nav lights such that they work without the effect conversion.  Unfortunately the cutoff angles of these lights on  jets with swept back wings is not as good as the original technique.  If you pan around the default 737  you can observe this.

For AI this now seems to work as requested at long distances, at least for AI that uses the default nav lights (fx_navred.fx etc etc) - I,e they behave the same as in default DX10.

Closer up the behaviour of AI lights is influenced by the aircraft lights of the plane that you are in and especially lights built into the model.

If you are sitting in a plane with no lights on  then the  green and red lights on AI aircraft have odd cutoff angles - they seem to be mainly visible from the front rather than the rear.  I think that they are actually orientated towards the cockpit of the AI plane.  Therefore as you watch a plane taxi past the lights may go out and then come on again as the angles change.

If you plane you are in uses the standard landing lights (these are often built into the model) then turning the landing lights on seems to largely resolve this issue.  If the plane you are in uses bespoke lights then the behaviour becomes less predictable.

I have not been able to find any way to improve this.

Try watching the same AI traffic in the default Cessna with the lights on and see if you observe the same as me.

Hello Steve,

thanks for your quick answer and your detailed information. I think I can live with this situation.

Keep up your great work.

Thanks Steve. You are correct, all the AI traffic uses Shockwaves light effects. I moved all the backed up effects fx_shockwave files back to the effects directory. This helped. I can now see the AI traffic lights at night but they appear and disappear sometimes. I assume it is the same issue as you descibed in a previous post.

Thanks again for a great program!

Can you send me a list of the shockwave light effect names, I can add them to the exclude list

Hi Steve -

I can send you the list later this evening but I think that all the file names start with "fx_shockwave*.fx". If I remember correctly there were about 55 files that I moved back into the effects directory.
