Version 1.1 build 24 (invisible AI traffic lights)

I don't see navigation lights in multiplayer on Vatsim

in DX9  they're clearly visible in very realistic distance of up to 25 miles in DX10 I don't see them at all. (?)

I wish it was working .

It could be related to navigation lights problem but I also noticed that airport beacon in lower visibility in a distance shows as a black dot, only when I'm very close to it it loads in as white and green lights.

Sim,PC, monitor,prescription glasses, chair.

Anyone here using MTX and got a working solution for latest version of MyTraffic X under DX10 on VATSIM (via FSInn)? I just can't get the AI lights working in greater distance.. :/ All is running extremely well except for AI aircraft lights.. I did try setting the effects ON in the fixer.

I also should mention that I'm flying the PMDG B77L..

Thanks everyone for any input here..

does MyTraffic X work ok without Vatsim?

I would first try disabling effects and the lights package (uninstall/install libraries to do this) and testing without vatsim.

If the AI lights then work - enable the lights package and see if they still work.

Then try with vatsim.

I wish I had all the time to test all the variables...

I uninstalled the DX10 Lights Package and disabled DX10 Compatible Lights. Just flew one flight online with this configuration. When I'm lined up on RWY and watched an aircraft in front of me departing I could see his lights all the way until he disappeared in the clouds. When I was climbing out of London (at about FL100) I could see (really subtly) the strobe lights of other aircraft on my left side about 20nm from me at the same FL. While flying at FL350 I could not see the lights of other aircraft passing in the other direction about 15nm on the right. No idea why. The question here is also from how far you can actually see the aircraft lights (also how far the planes are drawn and rendered)?

In MyTraffic X settings there is also this setting "Enable light effects":

I'm not really sure how this setting might affect the lights visibility under DX10... I have it checked all the time for all my aircraft. I can't also figure exactly what role the DX10 Lights Package that you can install is playing in terms of AI lights in the sim. I do understand that the DX10 Compatible Lights setting will convert all the lights fx into DX10 compatible ones but I just don't get the whole picture of dealing with lights rendering under DX10..

Thanks for your inputs..

EDIT: Also one more quick question: When I uninstalled the main libraries and installed them again without the DX10 Lights Package I saw that the DX10 Compatible Lights setting was checked as "enabled" by default. So I just disabled the compatible lights right after the libraries re-installation. Is that a normal behaviour?

Ok without any changes, lights will generally be visible in strange directions so nav lights are orientated towards the cockpit, and strobes and beacons are generally not visible. However the related light flashes are.

As ai get further away the lights change texture to halo.bmp and become brighter and visible over longer distances, although there are still issues with strange angles and cutoffs.

Now there is no 100% solution to dx10 nav lights...

The effects fix aka dx10 compatible lights addresses the close up visibility and the lights work fine on your plane and very close up ai . However it transpired that as ai aircraft get further away they no longer change texture and so become invisible.

To assist with this i added the lights package, this treats the standard fsx light effects commonly used by ai and stock aircraft in a different way. This works fairly ok for aircraft without swept back wings, but for jets the cutoffs are wrong. E,g look at the standard 737 , no lights are visible when viewed from in front. Also the lights are sensitive to your aircraft lights, and if you watch taxiing aircraft you will see lights go off as ai aircraft turm if your landing lights are off. However the lights now change texture and are visible over longer distances.

Hence if ai lighting at a distance is important i recommend to use the lights package. If you are more interested in the look of your own plane lights then just use the effects fix.

If you install both the lights package takes priority for the standard lights.

What happens with vatsim i do not know,

I would try vatsim with no lights package or effects. If it works install the lights package and see if it works the same or better.

Then add effects and see if its better or worse.

So I took my time to do couple flights on VATSIM to test things out. Flying with lights package and without effects enabled seems to be the best solution. But I figured out that the light visibility is sadly totally random in flight. Sometimes I can see the planes fine, sometimes just for couple seconds, sometimes I can't see lights at all.. also the VC view zoom and view angle affects the visibility. It's pretty sketchy..

also did you see the picture I attached in my previous post? the setting inside MyTraffic X..?

If you could find a definitive solution for online flying (is it even possible in the future given the current DX10 implementation?) and the AI plane lights that would be a big thing for the fixer..

Thanks!
