GPS addons

Featured Replies

I own the realair legacy and am strongly considering getting the realair duke and the a2a c172. My questions revolves around the value of gps addons and which is the best path to go. Since I primarily fly the 737ngx, 777 and dash 8 I never had to worry about dealing with the default gps. I am now getting into GA aircraft as a way to sharpen my flying skills, so I would likely want to do ifr flights with the GA aircraft as well as vfr. I had been looking at the reality xp guages, but the price was astronomical and I have read there is no support offered for those products anymore. I have also started reading about Minstar Garmin GNS530/430, which seems like a better price point but apparently it does not use navdata and you have to deal with another service to update your data. There seems to be a lot of confusion as people were claiming it was going to be released a month ago, but I can't seem to find it so I do not even know if its out or when it will be released. Any advice on addons for navigation for GA aircraft would be appreciated.

I am a "GA only" flyer and over a prolonged period I have searched in vain

for a G1000 system for FSX, in any payware available aircraft or addon which will approximate to the "real thing".One or two infer this claim but all fall well short! I have reached a stage where I must conclude

there just isn't anything to offer anything with a significant improvement beyond the default Cessna.

I would welcome anyone who can point me to a positive denial!

At present, your best bet is to get an RXP GNS530 or 430.

It will integrate nicely into the Legacy, Duke and a2a C172.

For the Duke, the 530 is the better choice, for the Legacy and C172, the 430 might be more appropriate,

but if you want to start somewhere, the 530 is a good place to start.  Bigger screen, easier

to use.

The Mindstar might be nice, when it becomes available, but it is rumored to cost $90 (gauge pack + navdata).

The rxp gauges are supported by users on the Simforums website.

If any questions, feel free to send me a PM.

Have you tried the Flight1 C182T?

It has a pretty darn good implementation of a G1000 in it!

What is the difference between the 430/530? Would I need both?

The 530 has a bigger screen - suggest starting with just that one.

In some cockpits, the space in the radio stack is not sufficient and

only the 430 will fit.

The planes you mentioned above are all OK with a 530.

RXP 530W. PM me reference updated navdata.

The 530 has a feature extra features over the 430. For one, the 530 displays VOR identifier and radial when tuned. 530 also has some terrain based things and larger display.

$50 being astronomical - I disagree! Many payware GA have VC integration for 430 and or 530 - ie the units can be used in many aircraft.

I do agree the support is a problem. However 99% of the issues can be fixed by looking at their forums or asking users. Bert has solved many users issues!

Reference the G1000. The Flight1 King Air, T182, and Citation Mustang have pretty nice renditions of the unit at their respective price points.

I was referring to posts I had read which were recommending two units along with crossfill or whatever it is called. To make such a purchase would run around $200. To me that is way too much money. $50 for an item is reasonable.

Unlimited is worthless to me. But I did buy both units, eventually. I started with the 430 and went to 530 a few years later. With the addons now, I'd definitely buy the 530 first.

Off hand the 530 natively integrates in the:

Real Air Duke / Legacy / Turbine Duke

A2A C172

Most of Carenado's offerings

Ants P2002 Sierra

Aerosoft Diamond 4X

Baytower Rv7

The 430 only integrates into

Lotus L39

Carenado BE9L

A2A Civilian Mustang

There's a few more that take either/ or as well.
