Downloading and saving METAR data

Featured Replies

I believe there is a function in XPX (native) that allows me to download METAR's. Does this only download METAR weather for a given radius of my current aircraft, or is it global (or even just "all US")?

And, once downloaded in native XPX, is there a way to save that weather configuration for later retrieval (after other METAR information has been downloaded? Or is there an XPX addon for that?

Thanks, Bruce.

It's a global METAR fetcher :-)

No way to save weather situation, I'm affraid..

Also, other than tunning ATIS, no way to see a graphical-based represntation of the METAR data on the Map, like in ELITE ( picture bellow from ELITE v8.6 Genview ESPO).

It would be great to have it for X-Plane 11 - weather observations visualization on the Map!

The METAR info is stored in the METAR.rwx file, in the main X-Plane folder. The file is overwritten everytime you tell X-Plane to download new (current) METAR's.

So, if you want to save a particular METAR situation, just copy that particular METAR.rwx file and rename it (so you'll be sure that X-Plane won't overwrite it).

Then, if you want to retrieve it in X-Plane, overwrite the current METAR.rwx file with the METAR file you saved, then once in X-Plane, go to the weather screen, choose "grab real weather from the net", and click on "Read METAR.rwx right now!" (but without clicking on "Download right now!", otherwise X-Plane will download new current METAR data and overwrite the file!)

Hi

I'm wondering from what website or server is downloading XPlane the metardata?

Do we have any websites where we can download metardata for free?

Cheers

There used to be a website that stored weather data from past days.  I'll see if I can remember where....

It would be amazing having a freeware addon doing this ;)

The NOAA plugin does it :-)
