4770K vs 2600K

Featured Replies

That's not at all what I was saying though Noel. The OP was saying there is basically no improvement from a 2600K to a 4770K, which simply put, is not true. The improvement can be quite noticeable in FSX. Perhaps not in other games, but FSX is it's own beast.

Reading FSX11Mark there is not much improvement upgrading from a 2600k to a 4770k.

However, in the same time upgrading to a better quality mobo ,faster memory and faster graphics card can show a difference up to 8-10% in fps...

Also knowing How to oc a system atributes to the performance.

Hasse ( Westman) for example is a master in overclocking.

His 2700k setup outperformed several 4770 setups.

FSX11Mark is probably the best objective test in something that can have big subjective elements when looked at only anecdotally, and as you point out there isn't much improvement in upgrading the CPU by itself.  Combined w/ other parts the difference is measurable but not earth shattering.   I have been running no limiters except VSYNC ON and so it's arguably easy to assess frame rate differences.  What matters the most to me is how the sim performs in the worst of scenarios--like flying the NGX into CYVR at night w/ in FTX scenery w/ full 3D lights visible.  The problem is that here 10% better gets you from 22 to 24 frames per second and that's hard to argue bothering w/ an upgrade for.  In the end we have to accept some compromise and move sliders accordingly in these situations--hopefully P3D v2 will help a little in this department, but that remains to be seen.  We'll be compromising there too but that's ultimately a good thing as it means there is scalability in the sim and that just gives headroom to grow.

I have to disagree my new 4770K @ 4.4GHZ out-performed both my 2700K  5GHZ systems in most heavy situations by at least 15-20%, same 670GTX for all three.

Most simmer who helped me get there had similar results with their FSX performance HYMMV always applies.
