November 28, 201312 yr I downloaded the zip files and install manager to a folder. I ran the installer and it put the exe files in the folder. Can I move the exe files to an external drive and not have it plugged in? I just bought a 1 TB internal drive and the scenery is taking up ALOT of space. Josh Scholl
November 28, 201312 yr If you have the scenery installed then yes, all the exe files can be put on another external drive if you wish. You can also install the scenery on another drive away from your main Flight sim drive (Reccomended) and add it to the scenery library. Dave
November 28, 201312 yr Author Right now I have all my fsx files on my new 1 to internal. That's the fsx, planes and scenery. Where do you suggest I put it? Can I just cut and paste the eye files to my external? I won't have to have the external plugged in though since the files are already installed, correct? November 28, 201312 yr Author I have the zip files already on my external. Can I delete those and move the exe files to the external and get them off my internal hd? Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk Josh Scholl
November 29, 201312 yr I have my orig downloads of MSE on an external HDD and install from there to a HDD. So I unzip the download to the external HDD, run the .exe's and install the program to an internal HDD. Once the product has been installed, I then delete all the .exe's and just keep the zipped files for a backup. According to TweakFS in another post somewhere in this forum (the developers of the MSE installer), the Zip and the .exe files are the same weight so you can keep the .exe's or the zipped files as a backup. You need a backup. Going back on-line 5 years from now to download the product again will probably not be possible so keep a backup and an external HDD is the best location for backups. Running the scenery from the external HDD is not recommended but possible but I saw one individual up in the CTD forum who tried to run scenery from his external HDD and he got periodic crashes. Might have been caused by the USB port losing power or other issues during the flight. In any case, strongly recommend installation and running of MSE products on an internal HDD. To be clear.... the zipped files and the .exe's are backup files. You can delete them or move them anywhere. What is important is where the MSE scenery is located and tied to your Scenery Library (these will be all .bgl files and you do not want to delete them). If you start to run out of storage space, you can use backup locations like Cloud, Dropbox, etc. Hope this helps. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! December 3, 201312 yr Commercial Member I can confirm what Jim is saying is correct, the ZIP files and the EXE files are the same size. Extract one, compare and see what I mean. The MSE folk are basically using the ZIP file as a "container" for downloading purposes because many browsers and Anti-viruses balk at downloading EXE files from the net (for good reason). The compression of the scenery files is actually already present in the installer so there is no real advantage in keeping the ZIP files, in fact it may slow things down next time you have to install any MSE areas because the MSE Install Manager will have to unpack the ZIP files first. That is why in their brief for the MSE Install Manager development they directed us to keep only the EXE files. And of course, once you install a MSE area there is no need to keep the EXE files or the Install Manager on the same drive as the simulator, you can safely move them to an eternal drive and run them from there if a reinstall is required. Hope that clears it up somewhat. Fermin Fernandez FSWidgets Developer Melbourne, Australia (UTC+10)

But whatever floats your boat on the .zip vs .exe backup I guess DeanManager - PC Aviator AustraliaRetailing Sim DVD Software, Downloads, Hardware and Accessories
