Seasonal change and CTD

Featured Replies

I thought FS9.1 fixed the problems with seasonal changes but now it happens again ... FS9 is only now changing from FALL to WINTER and again I get this CTDs all over the place. The hatefull terrain.dll error is popping up and it can not be any corrupted AFCAD file because there is none accept the default ones on my PC - and it must be the seasonal change.Any help with this or should I just turn my PC's time back to summer?RegardsT

I'm glad I'm not the only one getting this.....Brian

I got a CTD somewhere over France some days ago :-hmmm

I had 3 ctd's that I traced to fs2004 downloaded weather. I deleted the temp files in explorer and downloaded again with NO problems.HOWEVER, I did install AUTOSAVE. No sense taking chances and withthe time set at 600 secs it only stutters slightly every 10 mins.I can live with that.Hope you work out your problems. This will work for me and my cross country adventure in the fabulous RAS SCOUT!Bill

Three repeated flights in a row out of KBGR with winter textures. Three CTD's in a row. Changed to fall; no problem. This is with 9.1.Chris

I've traced a couple odd CTD's to downloaded weather myself and had the same discovery vs. a fix. After the 9.1 patch was released, I took my saved scenario that guaranteed a CTD (the one posted last winter) and the CTD was gone. There's been some instances where simmers have run the 9.1 update, and although it seemed to install, the dll's in the modules folder were the same. The new dll's should all be dated 9/1/04 or greater. Also, Microsoft said some fixes wouldn't be available to those running the No-CD crack--don't know if it applies here, but it's worth looking into if those getting the CTD's are running with the crack.-John

Glad I'm not the only one ...I'm using AS2004 and was trying to fly out of Z

Just curious--do you have Terrain displayed in the weather window? Try turning off the Terrain--this sounds similar to a consistent problem I had with the weather window after downloading weather, but only with the Terrain displayed--it was/is really quite odd.-John

I have also been suffering with the FS9 CTD issue for 6-9 months now. I installed the FS patch when it came out, and even tweaked my terrain.cgf file to diable some of the scenery, hoping that it would cure this problem. Everything was working great for a while. Just when I thought that I am finally cured of the problem, disaster struck again.Well, the other night I was flying from KRDU to KDFW and I got a CTD at FL350 somewhere over Tennessee. As usual, SB, FSRelay, and AVC continued to work, but my FS9 was gone from the taskbar, and I was left staring at my desktop and talking to others still connected to the VATSIM network about my issues! After the CTD, I restarted and continued my flight. I was tooling around in my "my documents" for something and had a bunch of open folders and other "junk" (IM, IE, etc) on my taskbar and lost FS again to a CTD. Of course, all the other programs were working as if nothing had happened. This 2nd occurance was very strange. My setup is P4 2.6 w/HT CPU, 1GB of RAM, ATI 9600Pro video card, WIN XP Pro, all the usual FS programs (FS9.1, FSNAV, FSRelay, SB, Servinfo2.02)including AS2004.5. I was flying using the winter scenery, during the daytime. I have been looking at the numerous posts on various forums regarding this issue and maybe the season does have some impact. I have checked my DirectX, video drivers, sound drivers and all that stuff. There are no issues there, everything is up-to-date. I have even increased the virtual memory allocation for XP, and checked every possible thing I can think of with regards to Windows. I guess my next trial will be to do some flights in the summertime, and see if that works. While this problem only affects me every once-in-a-while, I have seen so many posts about this issue for ages now. I am surprised that Microsoft is not paying more attention to it. The patch did not work for a lot of people, it appears. I guess their next patch will be FS2006.... oh well...regards, Gary

I had hoped that I was imuned from all of this but sadly Ive been bitten by the ctd bug as well. I have installed the patch for FS9 and run with the cd in the drive. Suddenly at KIAD Dulles washington the screen disapears without warning or any error messages. Since this I have been experimenting and noted that at nite the ctd did not occurr but everytime I switched to daylight hours the ctd hit. This of course was flying 26dec04. when I switched next to oct4/04 guess what,,,, no ctd day or night. Looks to me that the FS9 patch didnt solve the CTD problem afterall. This of course was all at the washington airport.Don

Terblanche,I apologise for asking this question because it is obvious I am the only person here who doesn't know what a "CTD" is. Could you tell me?

No problems ... CTD = crash to desktop (i.e. FS hangs and boms back to the desktop) - BTW (by the way) then we say IMHO (in my humble opinion)and you go .... LOL (laugh out loud)RegardsT

I had one as well but it was because of a mesh scenery. Not a Microsoft update problem. I would do a flight from CLE to TPA and halfway I would get a CTD. Removed the mesh and all is well.

Thank you, "T". I knew my face would be red when I found out what it meant. :-roll
