December 24, 200421 yr Major performance degradation after new HDD, XP install and SP2...Before my hdd failed, I was running a solid 32 fps at my cywg airport scenery with 100% AI (PAI) and Chris's low fps clouds. After the new hdd, xp installation my fps will not exceed 18-19 in certain views that were always 32fps.I have loaded all the same drivers and have all the same settings in FS.This is a real disappointment.Wondering if anyone could make some suggestions.BTW, I did not have SP2 installed prior to the new hdd. Thanks very much in advance.Adam
December 24, 200421 yr Adam, suggest that you go ahead and post your system specifics, something may catch someone's eye to give an indication.Happy Holidays,Ed GreenKCLThttp://www.panelshop.com/DEV.jpg
December 24, 200421 yr The first thing that I would think of is that maybe you had tweaked the OS or some hardware before and you have not repeated it since your new HDD was installed. Did you disable any of the services before that you have running now? Did you change any settings in regard to your video card or sound card? How about virtual memory? There are so many possibilities..... I think that if you search the forums for some of the tweaks that have been recommended here you might find the answer. You also could check DX9, verify that it is up to date and in order, check your device manager for any problems and verify that your drivers are indeed the correct ones. I wish that I could be of more help but there are so many things that it could be, I hope that this will give you a starting point. If you need more help just yell.Take care and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!Philip OlsonI'm the luckiest man in the world, my girl friend has a yoke and rudder pedals! December 24, 200421 yr Sorry Adam, I can't help, but I'm sure hope someone out there can shed some light on this?Did you install the same "type" hard drive?SP2 made NO difference on FPS here.... By the way, Merry X-mas and thanks again for all the great CANADIAN airports you created...
December 24, 200421 yr thanks guys. I appreciate the responses.Ed, is there some txt file or something that I should post? What specifically should post?I'd really like to get this sorted out...what a let down :-roll Merry Xmas guys.Adam
December 24, 200421 yr Sorry to ask this because you've probably already looked into it but let's make sure to rule it out. Is the AGP Acceleration box checked enabled when you run DXDIAG?
December 24, 200421 yr Adam, He means to post as much information as you can about your system, things like motherboard type, CPU type and speed, memory speed and how much, video card, sound card, all those sorts of things. Are there any programs at all that you have recently added or changed, especially anti-virus?Oh wait, I have an idea, I wonder of you could have been infected with something before you got SP2 installed, I have seen this happen before and it could slow you down. Do you have an always on internet connection like cable? Do you have an anti virus program installed and up to date? If so run it to be certain you are clean. Next if you do not have them download Spybot Search and Destroy http://cnet.search.com/click?xsl,cnet.2.2....289035%252Ehtml and Adaware http://cnet.search.com/click?xsl,cnet.2.2....319876%252Ehtml , sorry about the long links, I just copied them quickly from CNET. Install them, update them and then scan your system with them. If something is found it may take care of your problem, if not we can move on to the next step. Give these a try and let us know.Philip OlsonI'm the luckiest man in the world, my girl friend has a yoke and rudder pedals! December 24, 200421 yr SP2 brought my system to it's knees and the only thing that brought it back to life was uninstalling SP2 AND using system restore. Microsoft says about 15% of people have problems with SP2. I was one of them. You may be another.
December 24, 200421 yr chipset drivers and video drivers - make sure you have them loaded.--qnh Scott
December 24, 200421 yr Thanks again gents! Have to get the Xmas last minute shopping out of the way. Later today I'll follow op on your suggestions.Cheers,Adam
December 25, 200421 yr I would be interested if an uninstall of SP2 and a system restore helps. As SP2 deals strictly with "security" issues, and has nothing to do with "performance" issues, I've not installed it. I handle my own "security" rather than let MS have any part of it (MS MADE the "security holes"...why would I trust them to fix it?!? LOL). I would give the SP2 uninstall a shot, anyway...just to see. Victor Buck
December 25, 200421 yr Author If that happened to me, I'd suspect video drivers. I'm no expert. I've had no degradation or troubles with SP2. Peter Sydney AustraliaP4 3.0 GF4 Ti4200 nvidia drivers 56.12 SP2 no patchmost things maxed
