January 2, 201412 yr Moderator This afternoon I uploaded a utility to the AvSim Library which will allow WideFS users to monitor available Virtual Address Space (VAS). The file is named VAS_Monitor.zip and it should be available in the FSX Utility section tomorrow. It also displays the current frame rate. As it requires WideClient and WideServer it will only be useful to those running WideFS across a network. If you're only running a single PC the existing facility in FSUIPC remains available. It was written by Pete Dowson and uploaded with his permission. I hope it helps you avoid OOM problems. Ray (Cheshire, England). January 2, 201412 yr Awesome, now we can watch with a white nuckle death grip on the mouse as we see the VAS slowly tick up to 3.6.....3.7......3.8... knowing that the inevitable is near......OOM.... while at the same time enjoying our various flights in the sim. (tongue firmly in cheek Ray, looks like a good addon to have). Mark CYYZ
January 2, 201412 yr Author Moderator Mark, I hope it doesn't cause your stress levels to rise too much! Just to clarify, it shows the VAS remaining. On my own setup it hasn't gone below 400Mb so far. But then I don't use panels so that definitely helps. Ray (Cheshire, England). January 4, 201412 yr Re-flew LCPH-EGCC last night (with ASN) to see if VAS caused FSX to lock up last time Ray. Unfortunately FSX did lock up again about 3 hours into the flight but FSX reported the faulting module as FSUIPC. At this stage no idea if Pete's VAS monitoring utility cause the crash or if it was a combination of ASN and settings. I will try the flight again using the same aircraft and weather but with FSUIPC 4.297e when I get chance. But the monitor certainly does what it says on the tin and easier to read than monitoring on FSX screen.
January 4, 201412 yr Author Moderator Hi Vulcan, There was another report of FSUIPC crashing in FSX on Pete's forum. ASN was also being run. I haven't had any crashes involving FSUIPC at all. I do get STACKHASH crashes occasionally but clearing the FSX Facilities and Scenery Cache folder fix those. It would be odd if FSUIPC was responsible. Pete isn't back until the 9th. Happy 2014 to you! Ray (Cheshire, England). January 4, 201412 yr Hi Ray, It's the first time I can recall having a crash with FSUIPC as the faulting module which is why I'm not yet convinced that it really is FSUIPC causing the crash; I will do more testing. I did see on Pete's forum that he's away, not a problem ATM.
January 5, 201412 yr Ray and Pete, thank you. Just the job, as I'm still using Windows 7 home premium 32 bit. Very grateful to you. Phil
January 5, 201412 yr Author Moderator Thanks Phil. Pete did all the hard work. I just wrote the readme. Ray (Cheshire, England). January 6, 201412 yr Hi Ray, Re-flew the LCPH-EGCC flt this evening with no crash so as suspected it was not a FSUIPC fault.
January 6, 201412 yr Author Moderator Hi Ray, Re-flew the LCPH-EGCC flt this evening with no crash so as suspected it was not a FSUIPC fault. Hi Dave, I'd have been surprised if FSUIPC was the cause. Glad to hear your flight was problem free. Ray (Cheshire, England). August 25, 201411 yr Hi Vulcan what did u do on your second test flight from LCPH-EGCC did you turn ASN off or change anything ?, I am doing test now on FSX with fresh install i had thought it was FTX Global and Vector causing it or Ultimate Traffic 2. I have recently re installed windows and FSX along with FTX AU scenery and FTX AU airports but turned the FTX AU Airports scenery down and also set FSX settings to FTX recommended i am also running ASN Matt This afternoon I uploaded a utility to the AvSim Library which will allow WideFS users to monitor available Virtual Address Space (VAS). Hi Ray can u give a link to the Avsim forum where this Vas monitor can be found, Also Ray do u need a registered copy of FSUIPC for this VAS monitoring program to work ? Matt
August 25, 201411 yr Author Moderator Hi Ray can u give a link to the Avsim forum where this Vas monitor can be found, Also Ray do u need a registered copy of FSUIPC for this VAS monitoring program to work ? Here's the link. http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=181957 You don't require a registered version for it to work. Ray (Cheshire, England).
