MD11 FSX Crash 5 mile before TOD

Featured Replies

I have been flying the MD11 for about a year now without too many issues.  Recently I have not been able to complete a flight with the MD-11.  At first I thought it was a scenery issue but I recently discovered that it is maybe an MD-11 issue.  Every time I am within 5nm of the Top of Descent, FSX will freeze and stop responding.  I then have to CTRL, ALT, DEL and force close the program.  I do not have the pause at ToD feature selected.  I have also uninstalled, redownloaded the installer package and reinstalled the MD-11 and ran the FSX Registry Fix tool, all without fixing the problem.  Any ideas as I do not want to uninstall and re install almost 400GB of programs.

Hi Jason. Establish an early descent to see if this helps. You have the HIGHMEM fix installed?

Do you have any other of the PMDG series, eg, 737NGX ?  If so, try these to see if they have the same issue prior to TOD.

I know only too well that FSX is a living program and seems to have a mind of its own on each of our machines. I have my FSX installed on its own machine with the original load of Win 7. Since I stopped updating the Win 7, my system as become more stable as the updated code seems to cause much instability until settled down.

Just as a side note, .... How did you uninstall?

Ive had some issues in the past but forgot to remove all PMDG directories associated with it. (The uninstaller wont remove them and the files within.  The PMDG MD11 folder and the other one in simobjects needs to be removed manually.

I only did the uninstall from the start menu.  I also only have the MD-11 installed.  I will have to try these.  I do have the highmem fix applied to the CFG file.

I redid the uninstall and then physically deleting the PMDG folder.  I ran the FSX Registry Fix after doing a brand new install.  It would appear now that my FSX freezing occurs at anytime during the flight.

I figured out the cause a few weeks ago. It has something to do with PMDG and REX Essentials OD.  A friend of mine who knows more about computers found the error code log and did some searches online. It appears that some add on aircraft and REX get into a argument and cause FSX to crash.  I purchased and am now using ASN for weather and REX textures and it is working great.  Unfortunately a few weeks later an FSX error forced me to uninstall and reinstall FSX anyway.

If it is crashing near ToD this suggests a scenery problem. Some scenery in FSX, and AI leak memory, and so on longer flights you are more likely to run into problems.

I run REX OD and the MD-11 and have no problems.

Best regards,

Robin.
