February 16, 201412 yr The 757 is a beautiful aircraft to fly. I wonder why it didn't take off in the same flow as the 737 or 320?
February 16, 201412 yr The 757 is a beautiful aircraft to fly. I wonder why it didn't take off in the same flow as the 737 or 320? There are "rumors" (please please please) that Boeing is looking at a 757 replacement as they are finally seeing the 737-900 is not a replacement like they made out and the 787-800 is too large and also not a replacement leaving them with a definite hole or gap... Also my favorite transatlantic business product as it is very intimate opposed to 50-100 other ppl in business... Anyone know how many are STILL in service? This is an amazing stat... On Nov. 28, 2005, Boeing concluded the remarkable 23-year run of the 757 passenger airplane by delivering the final one to Shanghai Airlines. The airplane is the 1,050th Boeing 757. The 757 is one of seven commercial models that have sold more than 1,000 airplanes, and more than 1,030 of the 757s are still in service. So only 20 out of service? That can't be right.... Some interesting stats there. I think the 757 in British Airways I took was more roomy than the 737. It's been a while though.
February 16, 201412 yr The 737-9 Max should be the closest to filling that gap. The -900/900ER is the one currently trying to fill it. If the market for the 757 replacement was big enough they would have built one, but they didn't. That answers that I guess

February 16, 201412 yr Commercial Member So only 20 out of service? That can't be right.... This can be quite useful: http://www.airfleets.net/listing/b757-1.htm I quickly counted around 160 aircraft stored / scrapped / written off, so there should be around 850-900 757's active at the moment. Probably many of those stored will find new homes anyway, at least it seems like ex Finnair 757's found new homes rather easily. Very impressive, proves what a great aircraft 757 is... Just finished FSX flight from Helsinki to Halifax with QW 757, going to continue to Cuba tomorrow. I love doing that route as I flew it in real life two years ago & it's something an A321 still can't do. The weather was rather bad at Halifax, seems like earlier today quite a bit of flights got delayed / canceled according to flighradar. It was better when I arrived though.

Great website, thank you very much!! Also, pretty amazing that since 1981 roughly 90% are still flying! Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

February 17, 201412 yr 757, 767 are modern FMC controlled planes. But still a proper airliner. All the new crap is glass cockpit and you're not a pilot, you're a computer programmer programming your plane. 737NG, 777, 787. A320, 330, 340. Modern embraers, CRJs... All computer controlled. I remember when we had a glorious airline, Aeroflot. There was not a single american plane in fleet and absolutely no computers. But that dream collapsed in the 90s. I'm happy Aer Lingus leased a 757 in change of those plastic airbuses...
