February 4, 201412 yr Would this be a good card for Prepar3d v2? Its 3gb so has heaps of vram. Someone has offered me this card for a good price, I know it will be a good upgrade form my current HD 7770. I would have preferred the 680 but just to give you an idea I can get this very good condition 580 3gb for HALF the price of a used 680 2gb. should I go for it?
February 7, 201412 yr I have two GTX 580 in SLI. I havent had any OOM problem with my setup. On the other hand, I'm more a GA flyer than heavy tubeliner and I dont use heavy airport sceneries so my system is certainly less stressed than some other enthousiast on the forum. But overall this is a good choice if you intend to use it on one screen only. My setup is in surround and I'm thinking of upgrading to a faster card as the performance on 3 screens are low on FPS when flying in heavy volumetric cloud. Performance on one screen are very good. PierreP3D when its freezing in Quebec....well, that's most of the time...C-GDXL based at CYQB for real flying when its warming up...
February 7, 201412 yr Sounds like a nice upgrade. Running 6 cores @ 4.5 would go well with the 580. The ram increase will help also. jime James D. Edwards
February 7, 201412 yr It really depends on how much you can get the 580 for. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
February 10, 201412 yr Author Thanks guys, i went ahead and got the card. got a good deal. The improvement was very noticeable, the AA and the smoothness of the shapes was really a ten fold improvement. I went ahead and delete my cfg file and let it rebuild. unfortunately that set me back a bit. so I am back to tweaking to get it looking nice. I am going to wait for the 2.1 patch though because no doubt that will change a few things. I still have an issue though, had it in FSX aswell and have never been able to shake it. When I fly straight and level everything looks great and runs smooth. however when I start making a turn, the ground becomes blurry and the frames seem to jitter a lot. I don't believe its actually a performance issue. I think its maybe a screen refresh issue? I have the same thing on two different monitors. Its not a huge issue, but it is noticeable. Turning all the setting hard left still has the issue. thats why I don't think its performance. Any ideas would be great, do I need to look at the half refresh rate fix?
February 13, 201412 yr Any ideas would be great, do I need to look at the half refresh rate fix? Try getting ride of all trace of the old 7770 drivers with a registry cleaner like CCleaner. Delete the Shaders folder at: Users/your name/AppData/Local/Lockheed Martin/Prepar3D v2/ Might help. gb. YSSY.
