FMC transatlantic

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I assume that the topic I am referring to has surely been discussed at length on this Forum. However I have not been able to find the topic nor can I find the answer in the PMDG 777 manuals.

Here is the question: I have the original EHAM/TNCM flightplan from FlightAware and which I would like to fly with the PMDG 777. My problem is that I cannot find the correct way to insert the North/south & East/West degrees in the FMC.

Kind request to help me on this and for which I thatnk you in advance.

The format I use is N##W###

The full lat/lon format is right on the PERF INIT page.

Full - S3200.0E13242.8
Short - S32E132
Short 2 - 32S32

Short 2 is really weird, and to be honest, remembering its quirks isn't worth saving the 2 extra keystrokes from the other Short form. It uses N for north latitude, west longitude. E for north latitude, east longitude. S for south latitude, east longitude. W for south latitude, west longitude. The position of the letter in the group designates if the first digit of the longitude is a 0 or a 1. The letter will be at the end if the longitude is less than 100, and will be the third character if the longitude is 100 or greater.

N4400.0E05000.0 could also be entered as 4450N or indeed 44N50 or N40E050

Thank you ever so much

I personally don't like the 4450N because if I'm not mistaken that's actually the name given to a way point located at N44 00.0 W050 00.0 and it's named differently (I.e. The letters and numbers are arranged differently) for the ones located in the southern hemisphere. So using N44W050 builds a point located at the same place where 4450N is. But it's your preference which format you decide to use.

Nobody's spotting the typo in Rob's post? I guess Rob wants it to be a challenge for the topic starter to find it himself.   :P

Huh? Wrong topic, perhaps?
