P3Dv2.1 install issue- "out of space"

Featured Replies

I've been chasing an issue today- uninstalled v2.0, downloaded the complete v2.1, went to install v2.1 on E: where I have 60GB space free. The last thing I expected to see was an error in the installation saying I was "out of disk space".

I've been looking on the LM forum and think I have figured this out. P3Dv2.1 appears to unpack files on C:, to a new folder C:\Package, then install onto the drive chosen at the start of the installation. I don't have a lot of space on C: (I'm working to resolve this), but have figured out the lack of disk space is actually referring to C: (which I understand is not selectable in the installer, the files are always unpacked to C:).

I'm wondering if v2.0 also unpacked files to C:, as I don't know why I never had this issue with v2.0 before. Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks, Bruce.

It's always an advantage to have sufficient space on drive C. I had such incidents with other stuff, now I'm aware.

Just look on c:.../packagecache or something like that for a hexadecimal named file that is 10.5 gigabytes file size and delete it - that would be from 2.0

That's exactly what I had to do as i've only 12GB left on C:.

Thanks for the replies....  I actually ended up deleting another partition on my SSD and then enlarging C:, so now I have plenty of space available.  I was initiallty confused as I knew I had plenty of space on another SSD, E:, for the actual install of P2D.  When I first saw this error I thougt that I needed to manually unpack the files from the .zip on my off-line storage that I keep all my archived files on,  not realizing that the setup.exe was actually also unpacking them onto C:.

Anyway, problem solved, P3D2.1 with hotfix is working well so far.....

Thanks again,  Bruce.

Have a look here:

http://www.pvladov.com/2012/10/free-up-disk-space-on-ssd-in-windows-7.html

By disabling hibernation I got an additional 12 gig free, and changing to manual page file size of 800 I got another 16 gig.  I have 16 gig RAM, so if you have less RAM you'll get less extra free space by doing this.  I went from 7.5 gig free space to 35.

Thanks- I too have disabled hibernation (recommended for a SSD), and have my swap file on another HDD.

Good link about saving space, Bruce.

I've employed most of those but didn't know about the hibernation trick.  That got me almost 4GB.

Thanks.
