March 17, 201412 yr If i don't want to build a pc myself, but wanted to buy a desktop online and have them customize it to my specs, do you have any thoughts on which company is best for that (hp, Dell, etc) and which is worst? thanks Rob Marton
March 17, 201412 yr Author Ya thx bill if found his channel yesterday and sown nearly 5 hours watching some of his videos.
March 17, 201412 yr Tsa, I have had a good experience with Ironside Computers in the past. Their web site allows you to pretty much fully customize a PC. I have heard horror stories about some of the popular gaming PC sites like CyberpowerPC and Ibuypower, though I have no personal experience with either one. I would also stay away from Dell and the other big names for Gaming PCs as their prices are, quite frankly, a rip-off...can't beat em for a cheap office PC though. Perhaps others have more suggestions and experiences. If you have not, look at some of the videos I suggested above....you might be inspired to build your own. March 18, 201412 yr Author I found this Intel Core i7 4770k processor for only $269.99 but it says supports oc up to 3.9. Does that mean I can't oc it to 4.0 plus? http://www.microcenter.com/product/413248/Core_i7_4770K_35GHz_Socket_LGA_1150_Boxed_Processor
March 18, 201412 yr That is a poorly worded description. The 3.9 refers to the "Turbo" speed of the processor. Out of the box it will ramp up to 3.9 when under load, but yes....you can OC it further (with upgraded cooling). How far will depend on the luck of the draw, but any of the "K" chips can be overclocked. March 18, 201412 yr If you want a company to build - Jetline Systems. They aren't cheap but the guys who run it are very familiar with FSX. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
March 29, 201412 yr Please invest in two hard drives. FSX works much better and upgrades are way easier to install and configure. SSDs are a hot commodity right now but in reality, the only improvement will be load time. I still recommend putting FSX on one since I load MegaSceneryEarth along my flight path. When flying fast jets (especially military) FSX is constantly reading from the scenery database and injecting terrain. I don't like the slight pauses this process creates so I moved FSX to the SSD. With 1Tb hard drives at US $100 or less and 250 Gb SSDs at around US $160, it's a worthwhile investment. Good luck with your build, Rick Bertz Rick Bertz
