Textures, Strobe- und Wing-Lights at AI-Aircrafts ?

Featured Replies

H all,

as I tried the DX10 at FSX, the first, I have noticed is, that my AI-aircrafts lost their strobe- and wing- lights. Some AI-aircrafts also don't have textures and look grey at DX10.

I found these missing textures especially at the CDAI L1011-500, FSP DC-10 and MD11, Before I decide to buy the DX10- fixer, I would like to know, if this tool is able to fix that at those AI-aircrafts.

So may I ask, does anyone use these mentioned aircrafts too for AI-traffic with the DX10- fixer, and how ist the experience ?

Thanks

Dietmar

Dietmar,

Well, the DX10 fixer is a amazing and powerful tool as far as fixing most of the DX10 related bugs. The only thing I'm still stuck on (and still maybe considering going back to DX9) are these AI aircraft lights. I do fly online on VATSIM so I'd like to see other planes around me huh.

Let me quote Steve (month or two back): "Now there is no 100% solution to dx10 nav lights..."

I was trying to figure out a way to get the lights working on VATSIM in this thread: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/425551-version-11-build-24-invisible-ai-traffic-lights/

Since then I did not have time to fire up FSX and test the new version of DX10 fixer - maybe things have changed for better?

I also dealt with the gray textures but I made the switch to MyTraffic X and the textures are all good.

Steve, I know we may never see a definitive fix for the AI lights under DX10 but are there any changes in 2.0 or even changes that you are working on now that could fix this?

And I can't believe I'm the only one here trying to fly on VATSIM under DX10 and still having a problems with AI lights - please, anyone on the forum found a fix or settings to get this working with the fixer?

Hi again,

thanks for the reply and the link, it seems to be a difficult problem. Yesterday, I have found, that not only the wing- und strobe- lights disapear at ai- aircraft in DX10- mode, it also happens at the CS L1011.

But at the CS L1011 I have observed a strange behavior  : By starting the engines, as they are spooling up, just before running, wing- und strobe- lights appear for a little moment, then, when engines running, they  disapear again. It seems something is switching them off at DX10.

May be this observation can help Steve for his further development.

Regards

Dietmar

I think it is not a problem at all. You just have to start Fixer, install libreries, tip DX10 Compatible Lights and problem with your aircraft will gone

There are several things to say here because there are several people writing.. and its also very complicated

In DX10 lights work for about 5 seconds, After that some optimisation occurs which presumably has a bug and lights disappear with some variation depending on whether they have a "shine" or not. This bug is not fixable in my view (without access to the core code) and I do not anticipate any future improvements.

The best workaround for lights generally is the DX10 compatible lights fix which alters effects, sadly however this also makes AI lights fade with distance.

To further assist I provided the DX10 lights package which replaces the standard lights used on the stock aircraft (and commonly AI packages). This allows AI that use the standard FSX light to work at a distance. There are some odd cutoffs so AI lights may disappear from some angles and can be sensitive to whether you have landing lights on so its not perfect, but you will see AI lights in the sky.

Note that you can use both together. The only complication is if you have AI aircraft that use lights other than the standard ones you first need to edit the DX10SF configuration not to convert them when you enable DX10 compatible lights.

Finally for legacy runway lights if they seem sensitive to the aircraft lights and/or go off when you change viewing angle then you need to install a lightfield - refer to the manual.

O.k., You have got me brave enough to purchase this tool with the risk, to waste my money......

Trembling, I've loaded my flight, and soon, I could see a AI-LTU L1011. with completely strange textures. Tough luck - I thought. :(

But as I have seen the other AI-planes, which looked also gray before, I found that they all had normal textures and also functioning wing and strobe lights . And the LTU L1011 I could fortunately replace by another model, which now works perfectly. So yet again lucky!

Steve, thank You for Your detailed explanation ! Regarding disapearing lights in distance at some angels I'll take a look later; first, I'm happy that all works well at my airports also with my retro ai-aircrafts.

Thanks for all Your replys !
