March 24, 201412 yr After reading "AVSIM's Road Map for the Future", I was reminded of the value of this AVSIM website. Looks like they have many ambitious plans for hardware implementation in the future. With the recent down time of AVSIM for four days, I really missed access to the FSX and other forums. Also the download facilities. I have thought many times in the past about donating, but today I took time to actually do it...and it felt good. So if you have never done this and can afford to, at least take time to think about it. ps: I know no one at AVSIM and am not connected with them in any way, shape or form. Happy Flying!
March 24, 201412 yr I was in the process of making a donation but noticed that all of the options except the lifetime are "evergreen" which means it automatically renews at some time period. I refuse anything which is an automatic renewal and am unwilling to pay for a "lifetime" membership @ $500. The automatic renewal is just a personal policy and not directed toward anyone. I love AVSIM and wish there was a simple donation option.
March 24, 201412 yr Author Hmmm? I just looked at all of the donation options and they all said "The system DOES NOT automatically renew this donation. You must initiate the renewal." I did notice that donations under $50 are set for a certain number of months (6mths for $5 and $10, and 9 mths for $25), but then they don't automatically renew. So it looks like the minimum donation is really $30, which is the $5 donation, but for six months. Hmmm, that does seem somewhat limiting for someone that just wants to donate $5 or $10. I guess AVSIM doesn't want to mess around with anything less than $30. Any comments from someone at AVSIM?
March 24, 201412 yr Guys, the donations, except for lifetime, age out over a given period of time. They do not automatically renew (as we stated in the various alternatives). YOU HAVE TO reactivate the renewal if you chose to do so. So, PDX Flyer's SILVER DONOR badge will disappear and be replaced with the normal "members" annotation in 18 months from today. Thank you PDX, by the way, that was a very generous donation you made. I will go in and change some language settings to remove the confusion, when I have time and if we get the hardware working as it should this week.
March 24, 201412 yr Tom, What do you think of the idea of listing a project and budget with the total contributions accumulated toward it? People could see their contributions at work or their wallets working as the topic title states. It might also have the "lottery effect" of bringing in more donations as the pot gets bigger or closer to the goal. Just a thought. I had thought of that, but I like the permanence of the donations system that we did set up and especially the recognition given in the member's profile when posting a message.
March 25, 201412 yr Tom, I apologize for not reading the donation section more closely. You guys keep up the good work

March 25, 201412 yr I tried to donate with Paypal and it wants to debit my checking account even though I have Paypal set up to charge my Paypal card. Help. We can't help you with that. You need to adjust your PayPal account. We can't do that for you.
March 26, 201412 yr We can't help you with that. You need to adjust your PayPal account. We can't do that for you. It is adjusted, everywhere else it charges my card, AVSIM is the only one that won't let it. I use my Paypal with the card a lot, gives me security and recourse. I will try it again and see, thanks.
