Oceanic CLR on Vatsim ?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have read the very nice turtorial Part 1 and 2 for ETOPS and was wondering if Oceanic Clearance is simulated on Vatsim and if they are could you give me an example here in this topic? I am no expert on this but apreciate people with knowledge.

Thanks in advance

(I have a flight NZAA-CYVR coming up shortly. btw I hate the FPS performance loss when using the FIX page ,grr)

Yes, oceanic clearance is simulated in Vatsim. You can ask for them either from Gander Oceanic or Shanwick (depends on where you are departing from). In the case of CTP Westbound three days later, you will be requesting clearance from Shanwick. The ETOPS tutorial 1 and 2 gives you some examples and that is how they are done in real life and on Vatsim. One thing to note is that HF radio isn't simulated on Vatsim, so the oceanic radios sound like VHF.

Doubt it.  One, VATSIM's implementation is unique (a lot of controllers simulate CPDLC using the pilot client text box), and two, there are already tutorials out there.  It would be like including a section on radio technique for the NGX tutorials.  You should already know it, or you should come to it by other means.

Thanks. In that light can you help me with the practice of a scenario route from NZAA-CYVR? What would be common communication in real life during this route? I do have PFPX if that helps

Thanks. Apreciate all your knowledge and those who likes to light it up

I'm not familiar with that region, but I suggest "Cross Atlantic Flights" by Krikor Michikian and Vangelis Hassiotis:

While it's very old book and written for cross Atlantic flights, it contain useful informations for ATC comunications, ETOPS, Re-release proc, etc.

Like mentioned above, it isn't for the PACOTS, but here's an example of NAT communication:

Over on that side (Pacific), you'll be looking for info on the PACOTS.  I tried looking for some VATSIM resources, but they were all aimed at controller procedures, and not so helpful for learning the pilot side.  If you're interested, you might search for PACOTS, or ZOA Oceanic (Oakland Oceanic).
