February 5, 200521 yr Real-Air for me too - love the external effects on the exhaust manifold - enable these from the control panel.... :)

February 6, 200521 yr Author "Oh, I do own it. But keep in mind that clipped Spits are an affront to nature and are the epitomy of heresy. *grin*"Before we finished it I kind of agreed with that. But after a while the clipped wings start having an appeal of their own, as long as you see it as a different aircraft!Cheers,Rob Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
February 6, 200521 yr I'll end up getting both. I already have the RealAir bird (I'm biased again! :-hah) and suspect that it will be the better model both aerodynamically and visually, but I need my Merlin fix with the BoB MkII and the MkIX as well.Hey, Rob, we can't get you to go back and look at doing an earlier mark as well, can we? (Tim, start harassing... ;-) )Ian P.
February 7, 200521 yr I already had the Real Air but wanted to see whether it was worth getting the Just Flight as well. In view of all the kind responses that have been posted I won't bother with the Just Flight. Thanks you everybody, everywhere all the time!
February 7, 200521 yr Author Not that I want to shoot myself in the foot, but some people may find the large number of versions in the Justflight version is exactly what they want. And some Spitfire enthusiasts may like to have both! This might sound strange coming from me, but it's best to give all addons a chance before making assumptions unseen. I wish Justflight good luck with their release.Rob Young Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
February 8, 200521 yr I just read a ** P51 review and read some interesting thoughts about perspective. I must admit I have cheated a bit generally adjust the viewpoint for best outside view but what zoom level give the closest to real pilot view level in the Realair Spitfire? Sit height as well?
February 10, 200521 yr I have both...the Spit has been my favorite plane since seeing Battle of Britain in the theater as a kid.The prices for the two are comparable, and as others have stated, the difference between the packages is that the Real Air Spit primarily offers fidelity with a fair degree of variety, while the JustFlight/Aeroplane Heaven Spitfires primarily offer variety with a fair degree of fidelity. Because of their differences, they're really not in the same league. The flight models for both seem to present the Spitfire as extremely responsive to control input, and both require significant attention to engine management to fly correctly...neither make the Spitfire into the kind of plane you can jump into and fly with no preparation. Both offer significant attention to detail; the Real Air has the engine module that simulates catastrophic responses to engine mismanagement, and the Aeroplane Heaven models things like a tail wheel lock that needs to be set before takeoff and a push-button fuel gauge (which reads zero fuel until you push the "check fuel quantity" button). The sounds included with both packages are good for a permanent grin. The snarl of a Merlin at full power is unmistakable, and AH have nailed it. Better still, the engine sounds are different from variant to variant, at least as far as I could tell. As others have mentioned, the RAS Mk XIV includes ambient sounds not heard before, such as creaking from the airframe under heavy loads...and the AH package seems to be exceptional in this regard, as well. My only beef with the Aeroplane Heaven set is that the cockpits aren't laid out to offer the kind of visibility I'd expect from a fighter aircraft built in the days before airborne radar, when a pilot had to see his enemy in order to survive. There is next to zero visibility around the 2D panel (not entirely unrealistic) and the VC seems hard to adjust for good visibility when compared to the Real Air effort. On takeoff and landing, I tried to apply the visual techniques described on the series of excellent posts on flying the Spitfire after the release of the RAS version and couldn't quite get the VC set up to manage it, though admittedly, I only spent an hour or two to get an initial impression. On the other hand, I can't seem to find anything wrong at all with the Real Air Spitfire. The key selling point for me (and the reason I bought the AH package after I already had the RAS Spit XIV) is that the Aeroplane Heaven package comes with CFS3 versions of the Spitfire included...so when I feel the need, I can head for Southeast England as it was in the Summer of 1940.The bottom line is that both are excellent offerings that aim for (and meet) different objectives. My guess is that you'll be happy with whichever one you buy first...but will still buy the other. Some planes inspire a pilot's love; the Spitfire fuels a pilot's passion.Yoda Best Regards, Kurt "Yoda" Kalbfleisch Pinner, Middx, UK Beta tester for PMDG J41, NGX, and GFO, Flight1 Super King Air B200, Flight1 Cessna Citation Mustang, Flight1 Cessna 182, Flight1 Cessna 177B, Aeroworx B200
February 10, 200521 yr Author We reckon about .75 to .76 zoom is just right. But it's a matter of taste. All the Best,Rob Young www.realairsimulations.com Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
February 10, 200521 yr Yeah but around .75 is most real if you compare how a real pilot would see things? Sitting height is it like default. Maybe you can adjust the sit height in the real spit itself :)
