February 7, 200521 yr my father had over 1000 hours on the starfighter. CF-104 we called it. There were guys that didn't want to go up, but they were trained on it, and that's what they were supposed to do. They were scared. And there were guys that followed my dad up, and all over, and back again. And they all showed up at his funeral, the guys that really counted to him. The good guys. There's always guys in the wings, but the guys you can count on, when you're flying low and fast, getting tree stuff and smelling the roses, but really smelling the roses, in your air intake, those are the guys you bring home to dinner. And, so, he did. Thank you dad.Don't know how I got here, but here I am...billg
February 7, 200521 yr 7am here in my time zone, so yes, shortly. I refuse to do shrooms before 8am just because the bacon is not ready until then. And the rest? It's all a dream, everything is a dream, so relax, slow down, just take it or let them shove it to you the way it is, because only we know the rest is us in our world. We just need to make it a good dream. billg
February 7, 200521 yr yeah, I should. But I grew up with my dad flying 104's, which meant that the guy with the nice laugh on friday night was dead on tuesday morning, and he was single. Then, the quiet guy in the corner with 5 kids died that weekend. And then, my best friends father died the next monday, but they were so busy with funerals that they didn't watch us, so we let loose. I wish I could meet him now, but it would be different, life goes on. For us. That was my introduction into flying, funerals. But hey, there were lots of them, you just stand around and soak it up. We were at the airport one day, and a C130 came in and taxied up, and the crew came off with a bunch of orange garbage bags with shapeless lumps in the bottom. I could feel the tension as they came down the ramp with them, so I asked, what's that? Without thinking, my Dad said that's Mr. xxxx. In my mind, at the time, I thought, oh no, that means my friend is going back to canada. Then, and prolly even now, lumps in the bottom of orange garbage bags are bad, especially if they're you. Just my thoughts.....billg
February 7, 200521 yr what does this have to do with the topic? I have no idea. I hope there's a common thread there, if not, so be it. Later. I'm off to bed....billg
February 7, 200521 yr Maybe start your own thread in a more proper forum instead of spamming this one?
February 7, 200521 yr maybe take something that takes the wrinkles out of it besides toilet paper. No idea what that might be, but I'm sure you know the cure. billg
February 7, 200521 yr For me it is like this:I am not a pilot.I have only ever been in passenger jets and have travelled extensively in Europe, Middle East and Asia. I have only once been in a Piper Archer, and several times in a Mil 2 helicopter.I like airliners more...I like the procedures used to fly and the feeling that I have arrived in another country. GA is more like a Sunday afternoon hobby. Plus you got the airhostesses too...(-;No seriously I am not disliking GA, it is just that I prefer the big iron. In my PC I have a few GA add ons too as well as military jets, but since FS98 I am more interested in the big iron. I have almost all the payware ailriners. My first ever flight in FS98 was with the default 737 400....I believe the fascination of most with the ailriners is that they can virtually travel to far away places following the precise procedures and at least they can repeat what they experience in a real flight, albeit back there in economy...
February 7, 200521 yr >Maybe start your own thread in a more proper forum instead of>spamming this one? What I like about this forum is that you don't have to put up with the nonsense and meaningless junk that is rampant on the usenet groups. I hope we keep it that way.
February 7, 200521 yr I love a balance between the different types in flightsim. To me, to become fixed on one catagory gets a bit boreing after a while. As an old real world light stuff CFI of past days, I never was able fly hot or heavy. Flightsim gives us a virtual chance to do that to some extent.Flying low and slow over Misty Fjords, in and out of the tight spots is fun. An F-16 screaming from the Dead Sea North, is an interesting break at times. For a real challange, hop in the 727 or DC9 without all of the glass bells and whistles, and an autopilot that may encourage you to fly the thing yourself. When that gets old, if I go for a mental exercise with the heavies it adds to the enjoyment for me.Start with real planning, including checking out the North Atlantic Tracks to cross the pond, flipping the pages and choosing the SID, STAR, and approach plates that will be applicable.Add a complete preflight useing the checklist for the heavies or a good Exec.Jet coupled if available with the setup of an FMC useing all of that good planning previously completed. (Just getting the engines started then is a bit of a challange with some). For a little more brain work, add VatSim ATC to the pot. you may get to talk to other simmers (".msg" only please)and find out some interesting new things as well.Communicating with a copilot through FDC or a later third party program also adds to the fun to me. (Still miss ProPilot). Then the speed, altitude and range capability of the Citation X, a Gulfstream or a heavy is enjoyable to me. By all means to each his own, but I am not sure I have found that I "prefer" any particular type in flightsim aircraft. I love it all!Happy Flying:RTH 1585368CFI
February 7, 200521 yr Most of my flying is low and slow in a GA aircraft or short hops in a commuter turboprop or the like. However, I go through periods when I fly the heavy metal, most recently to use Richard Probst's great 727 and 737-200 panels. I love the sound of the big jets and the feeling of power as they lift off.As for not being a challenge: Try the River Visual approach to Rwy 19 at KDCA, or Farak 6c departure from Milan. Hit the waypoints bang on at the right altitude and speed and you've really met a challenge. The bottom line, though, is it's a flight simulator and you can do whatever you want with it.BlairCYOW
February 8, 200521 yr >maybe take something that takes the wrinkles out of it>besides toilet paper. No idea what that might be, but I'm sure>you know the cure. >>billg>Could the Moderator filter out this completely off the subject spam and trashy comments and lets get back to discussing things to do with flight sim?Its against the rules and should be kept out of what is the best meduim for FS enthusiast.s, least thats what I thought the forums where for?All the best,Dave.'Three greens and soft landings' Dave Taylor
February 8, 200521 yr I've already spoken and apologized to Par. If you'd mind your own business, if you have anything to mind, it would prolly be cool. billg
