April 21, 201412 yr Just wondering how you Flight fans configure your game sessions for casual fun. I mean things like time of day, weather. Game play choices like taking long or short flight jobs and flying in real time. I often configure dawn or dusk just to enjoy dramatic sun light. I did have weather set to random, however some flights were nearly impossible due to strong winds in underpowered craft. I usually set 'among the giants' for interesting clouds with light to medium winds. I try to find very short trips that I can fly without skipping, over interesting terrain. I prefer 'jobs' rather than free flight, for added challenge. And then I mix it all up with occasional night missions, heavy or foggy weather and aircraft I don't fly often. I'm interested in what other people do for fun, because rising to 5000 feet, heading toward destination with no wind, for a two hour flight in a straight line, is rather dull. So, you have to make your own fun. What tickles you?

April 21, 201412 yr Try flying the Paris Four departure out of Hilo, then to UPP via V2, follow V16 to LNY then the Julle Five arrival into PHNL and finish with the ILS Y on to 04R. Both the Maule and the RV can follow this, although I'd use the RV since it's faster. Airnav.com (for dep and app procedures) and Skyvector.com (for low level airways and waypoints) are your friends here. Use whatever weather you want, as long as the wind is out of the north east at Honolulu. Visibility won't matter since you're on instruments all the way, as long as it meets minimums for T/O and landing. You're going to have to climb to 6,000' for terrain clearance. That'll keep you busy, especially the DME arc from Alana to the 04R localiser without an autopilot. It was either that or blasting around at low level in the A6M looking for random aerocaches... April 21, 201412 yr Author Rarely would you fly in a straight line for two hours in reality. What are you flying? You could spice it up by navigating airways. Oh no, I don't fly in a straight line and I rarely have two hours of free time. I do take detours to sites of interest like towns, bridges, airfields. I'd follow a coast line, river or valley if possible. I love the Cub, but it's very slow. The RV is great, but can't take passengers, so the Maul gets most carriage jobs. I did try VOR navigation but wasn't very good at it. I flip the plane upside down and make my passengers scream and hurl or bleet if they're four legged. Anyway, I'd like to hear what a typical flight session looks like from other forum people. I'm not looking for help
April 21, 201412 yr Good topic! I do different things: - always on the lookout for challenging strips because landing successfully is such an important part of flying. - therefore, I like to do the landing challenges over and over and over again. - occasionally jobs, although I prefer to avoid sickly Bertha and med evac flights. - I still have close to 20 unacquired Aerocaches on my list and have to do them so that I can be the first to 350! - weather as appropriate for the area, but time is continuous so that I end up flying at all hours of the day and night. - short flights because if I wanted long boring flights, I would be off pretending I was a Clipper Captain. Best regards. April 22, 201412 yr Author - occasionally jobs, although I prefer to avoid sickly Bertha and med evac flights. LOL. I love the voice acting. Some of the virtual passengers are wacky. There's a real strict flight instructor copilot you can get some revenge on. Don't you hunt bridges also Luis? Good stuff. Keep em coming!

April 28, 201412 yr How do you like to play Air1?Fess up I do jobs, missions, awards and the achievements stuff, what ever comes to mind. Total flight time in game 370 hours. I have not done much Mulitiplayer to date. Go in once in a while and poke around. I have always used a joystick and rudder pedals but lately have been playing some with the mouse controls, just getting lazy I guess. I can understand now why the devs went that route for new people. You can hardly mess up a landing with the mouse and the Cub is very controllable in the air with the mouse. It does not work very well for ground handling or for aerobatics however. Rudder pedals and the joystick afford much better control for snap rolls, can't do that with a mouse. I own all aircraft and land areas and had really really hoped for so much more. Still very disappointed. I have the last 3 msflight simes still loaded but don't go there much. FLIGHT has them all beat for this old RW pilot who has not flown PIC for some years now. Steve
April 29, 201412 yr Author Thanks for sharing Steve. I share your sentiments on Flight. Just for laughs, the last Flight Simulator I spent time on was SubLogic Flight Simulator 2 on the Apple ][. It's... come a long way since then. I like what MS was trying to achieve with Flight, except for the price, the pace and the punch in the face.
April 30, 201412 yr Ah! The Apple II, fond memories of bygone days. I use the mouse as controller when the cat is sleeping on my lap and I don't want to bother her. It's certainly a lot easier for a beginner, and the beginner's principal complaint has always been that FS is too difficult (and that there is nothing much to do!) Since I love the landing challenges, I have been doing the Gravel Bar Landing over and over, but this time with the mouse. You know that challenge, the one with a 45 kt headwind that blows your Cub right back into the water! I have mostly gotten bad results just as I do with a joystick, but, oh miracle, I finally got the Gold! So, I will use the mouse more often. Love this challenge, so it will be my favorite activity for the week to come. And it just occurred to me that there is no previous version of FS (or any other flight game, past or present) where gameplay is so fluid and performance is so good in comparable situations. Just consider that the Gravel Bar Landing has multiple scenery objects (forests) at close range, complex atmospheric effects, music, the aircraft physics, high resolution cockpit and gauges, etc., etc. And yet the whole activity is very smooth and totally enjoyable. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
April 30, 201412 yr I like what MS was trying to achieve with Flight, except for the price, the pace and the punch in the face.I do think the price was very reasonable considering the cost of all the enhancements needed to bring FSX up to the standard that FLIGHT was at right out of the box. And best of all no constant tweaking required. Fire it up and go fly, change locations, aircraft, weather, never a problem. But it was not to be and I'm getting too old to wait much longer for that pie in the sky "perfect do everything simulator." We had it and we lost it. Steve
