Taking Off From Paro - 737-900 Pmdg

Featured Replies

Hey guys! I've been trying to take off from Paro airport Bhutan, and for some reason i'm not able to establish enough lift to clear the terrain. I'm configured correctly, and i've shed all the weight that i can by using minimum fuel settings and payload!!

It's driving me crazy! both runway 33 and 12 were attempted with no success. I can reach up to 140 knots but then i pull back on the yoke and nothing happens.

I'm no expert however I'd hazard that you never will either, the airport runway is probably too short considering the airport altitude (7000+feet) , environment etc...

If the airport runway was long enough (and I think it's under 2000m long) so a longer runway at that elevation would be required anyway, I don't think a Vr of 140kt is still high enough.  Those better informed will soon correct us.

Boing has done it with their 737-700, can't post a link but it's a 13 page pdf on their tech. demonstration flights.

Try flaps 15 takeoff, and make sure your trimmed correctly.  Check hydraulics are switched on so the yoke is working.

There should be no reason why you can't take off.  I may try it when I am back home in 2 days.

Yeah you should be able to get airborne.   I also recommend flaps 15 for maximum lift and use short field take off procedure, which means, don't use derated take off power and push the throttles to take off power and make sure the engines have spooled up to their take off power before releasing the brakes.

I stand to be corrected, but I believe there is a short field package that you can install as well through the menus in the FMC which will assist as well.

Kind regards
